Relate West Sussex has a vacancy for an experienced counsellor to work with children and young people aged 11-18.

You will be based at a Crawley GP Surgery for one day each week, delivering eight counselling sessions in a day. This work is part of a contract with a Crawley Primary Care Network where children and young people struggling with a range of issues including, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem and self-harm are referred to Relate for short-term counselling (an assessment, followed by six sessions of counselling).

You will be paid as set rate of £210 per day. Relate will provide administrative support, free individual and group supervision, and opportunities for peer support and CPD learning as part of the package.

This is initially an eight-month, fixed-term role from 1st February 2023 - 30th September 2023, with possibility for extension and further opportunities at Relate.

**Start date: As soon as possible after 1st February 2023**

**MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB**

To deliver high quality, effective and professional counselling service to children and young people.

To participate in clinical and individual supervision and training to develop skills in counselling practice.

**PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES**

Adhere to the code of ethics and practice adopted by Relate and relevant counselling professional bodies.

Be aware of and adhere to all Relate policies and practices, including Safeguarding and Confidentiality to ensure the safety of clients and staff.

Maintain confidential records according to the data protection regulations and centre procedures.

Maintain and deliver records to enable the Centre to effectively monitor the use of the service and feedback from clients within agreed timescales.

Participate in individual and counsellor (clinical) supervision and team meetings as required.

Take responsibility for professional development and training as agreed with Supervisor and Centre Manager to maintain your professional status and to meet business development needs.

Work collaboratively with the Centre team and the Federation to ensure counselling services are delivered in a co-ordinated, professional and efficient manner.

Positively and pro-actively undertake other duties as required by the Centre Manager that are appropriate to the position.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential**
- Recognised children and young people’s counselling qualification.
- Willingness to undertake additional training and CPD as required by the service.
- Experience of counselling children and young people aged 11-18.
- Experience of assessing client needs and suitability for counselling.
- Experience of working with a range of counselling theories and methodologies.
- Experience of recognising and responding to safeguarding issues.
- Experience of maintaining accurate and appropriate records of counselling.
- Experience of working autonomously and as part of a team.
- Professional and positive approach to work.
- Able to think creatively to support the development of the services offered.
- Adaptable to the changing environment and able to work flexibly as required.
- Able to work with tact, diplomacy and compassion.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

**Desirable**
- Additional counselling qualification (adults, relationship, family, psychosexual therapy etc).
- Experience of counselling independently in a professional setting (eg GP surgery, school etc).
