As an Integrated Front Door (IFD) Support Officer in the Integrated Front Door (IFD), you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team including police, health, education and social workers. The IFD team is the access point to Children’s Social Care. The team’s key role is to undertake an initial review of all contact made to the local authority for a request for service for a child or young person, and to make an initial recommendation.

The post holder will be a member of a multi-agency team with responsibility for gathering information to inform decisions about the level of need for a child or Job Description & Person Specification young person into Children’s social care. The post holder will provide a recommendation for the appropriate outcomes, while ensuring that practice is compliant with statutory responsibilities and that the child or young person is not at immediate risk of harm.

Key Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with those people who access or need the service, including children and families, members of the public, internal departments and professionals from other agencies.
- Undertake an initial assessment of the children and families’ needs. This will include engaging with children, carers and relevant agencies, many of whom will have complex and multiple needs. -- Analyse information provided and make recommendations of on-going support that will be required according to the level of need identified.
- Manage an inbox with support from an Advanced Social Worker. Assess needs, risks and options taking into account legal and other requirements. Provide tailored information.
- Use knowledge, skills, and initiative to obtain comprehensive detail from referrers and pursue lines of enquiry to gather the most relevant information at the first point of contact.
- Triage incoming requests for support to ensure they are progressed to the most appropriate service in a timely manner. In addition, provide help and guidance to professionals and members of the public identifying appropriate external services or organisations.
- Work in partnership with children and families to identify and provide services to support them in making positive changes to enable them to reach their full potential.
- Establish effective working relationships with colleagues within Children’s Social Care and partner agencies - for example staff from police and/or health services, challenging existing practices and generating ideas and solutions.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of all work undertaken and ensure high quality core data by cross referencing multiple children’s databases, including highly sensitive and confidential information. Responsible for the care, accuracy, confidentiality, security and maintenance of all individuals’ records and related manual and/or computerised information. This includes maintaining strict confidentiality in relation to personal information which may become known whilst performing the role, in line with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of the meaning of safeguarding and escalations where appropriate, as defined in relevant policy guidance e.g. continuum of need, Working Together 2015 and Children’s Act 1989.
- Act as a representative for the service by working with a focus on delivering services to those people who access or need the service, acting with integrity, professionalism, and respect on behalf of the organisation, ensuring at all times that the needs of individuals are paramount.
- Contribute to service projects and/or reviews, challenge existing practices and generating ideas and solutions.
- Remain up to date and compliant with all relevant legislation, organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct in order to uphold standards of best practice.
