**About the function**

System Operator are passionate about capacity. We craft tomorrow's railway to meet future needs of the rail industry. By understanding what the future requirements of the railway are, we can plan the long-term capability of the network, promoting the efficient use of network capacity. We improve the railway for the millions of people who use it every single day.

**About the role (External)**:
**Who are we looking for?**

We are looking for someone who can assist the Training & Competency Specialists in the delivery of our outstanding training and competency frameworks. We need someone who can provide an effective and efficient coordination service to the function, which means you will need excellent organisational skills. We want someone who prides themselves on the service they offer to customers and can demonstrate exceptional communication skills.

**What does the average day look like?**

As a Training & Competency Assistant you will,
- Be co-ordinating the activities of the internal, external tutor/assessor pool supporting the effective scheduling of training working with the Training & Competency Specialist
- Maintaining accurate and regular communication of course information for delegates.
- Supporting the team in maintaining accurate delegate records and the scheduling and booking of training courses.
- Assisting the development and delivery of training courses to meet safety and quality requirements and to current standards in rules, regulations and working instructions. Use available resources effectively in order that delegates are given every opportunity to achieve the learning outcomes.
- Facilitating end of class knowledge test or other assessment to measure achievement of defined standards of knowledge at the end of each training course.
- Evaluating and report on the quality and standard of training provided, ensuring consistency and identification of trends in performance and achievement.
- Supporting the Training & Competency Specialist and Managers
- Providing support to continuous improvement activities
- Undertaking the role in a way that is consistent, and reinforces, Network Rail behaviours

**What essential skills and experiences are required?**
- Educated to GCSE/O level standard or equivalent in English and Maths
- Proficient in the use of IT desktop packages, particularly MS Office
- Good interpersonal skills
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to effectively prioritise workload
- Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to affect a culture change
- Ability to motivate and inspire

**We would also like, but not essential.**
- Experience in working within a training environment
- Experience of Oracle systems
- An understanding of different learning styles
- Displays attributes of a team player
- Thorough knowledge of the methods in use in Capacity Planning (appropriate to the training being delivered) from basic to advanced systems.
