**Job description**:
We are looking for a senior policy advisor (Grade 7) to support and lead key workstreams to deliver on the Government’s objective of greening the financial system, and unlocking the private finance needed for the UK’s net zero objectives.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the centre of net zero policymaking in the DESNZ Net Zero Strategy directorate. We are the Directorate responsible for delivering the UK Government's strategy for bringing down the UK's greenhouse gas emissions to meet our climate commitments, and driving clean growth across the UK.

To achieve the ambitions set out our Net Zero Strategy, the UK must attract significantly more private investment into critical sectors and new green industries. You would be at the heart of strategic decisions to ensure we have the right framework of policy, regulatory and financial support to deliver this.

This is a two-year, fixed-term role. You will be part of the Green Finance team that delivered the UK’s second Green Finance Strategy in March 2023. This is an exciting opportunity to build a network inside and outside government.

You'll be expected to be comfortable engaging with external stakeholders, particularly investors of different types ranging from venture capital, private equity, and infrastructure to institutional investors and banks.

**Person specification**:
1. Leading on the development of the UK’s approach to climate transition planning for the UK’s largest companies

2. Jointly leading on our work programme on the development and delivery of a UK Green Taxonomy

3. Owning the relationship between DESNZ and the Transition Finance Market Review. This is an independent review established in January 2024 to look at how to support companies in hard-to-abate and energy intensive sectors to continue to access the capital they need to decarbonise and deliver our net zero ambitions.

You will line manage one member of staff, and will be part of a broader team of 10 people working to deliver the key commitments in the Green Finance Strategy. This is a fast-developing policy area that will provide you with opportunities to identify new priorities and push for tangible change in government.

**Skills and experience**

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic person who can hit the ground running and has strong aspirations to lead and manage workstreams that deliver impact. Prior government policy experience is not necessary for this role, although you would be expected to quickly develop competencies in this area.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a combination of strengths and experience across financial, policy and strategic skills. This may include:
