Preston, United Kingdom Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time Medical Secretary. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward thinking individual to work with us in the Renal Department at Royal Preston Hospital.

You will need to possess excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and keyboard skills and must be able to work well as part of a team and on your own initiative.

Good communication and inter personal skills, friendly approach, enthusiasm and motivation are essential as you will be dealing with doctors, other health care professionals, and crucially patients.

You will be a self-motivated individual with proven secretarial skills which include audio typing, diary management, and an excellent telephone manner. You will be calm under pressure as this is a very busy and at times demanding environment with a willingness to undertake and learn new tasks.

Experience of Trust IT systems, experience in a secretarial job and the ability to work without supervision are essential to this role.

This is an excellent and exciting opportunity to join the Renal Department which is a very busy and fast paced department providing patient care across Lancashire & South Cumbria, East Lancashire, Blackpool & Fylde and surrounding areas.

You must be able to work Thursday & Friday, core hours 0800 - 1600 hours.

We are looking for an individual who has previous experience in hospital administration. You will ensure the efficient channelling of communication between medical staff, GPs, patients, relatives, members of the public and other disciplines within the Trust.

A desire to improve and succeed and the ability to generate real energy and enthusiasm in the work that you do are essential to the role.

Knowledge and experience of office procedures are essential - we don’t want to just throw you in at the deep end so we are looking for someone who knows what it’s like to work in an office team environment. However, as all offices and systems are different, you will receive full training when you start so there will be plenty of opportunity to grow and develop new skills as well as show us what you can do with yours. The ability to use your initiative and work as a member of a busy team is essential.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust forms one of the major acute Trusts in the North West with a complement of over 1000 beds for a local population of 390,000 and a regional population of 1.5 million.

We have 10000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care and enhancing their experience which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

You will demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills by being the point of contact for day to day enquiries, referring where necessary to more senior staff.
