**Salary: £22.5 - £27.5k + Bonus + Rewards**

My client is seeking a highly motivated and organised individual to join their team as a Payroll Officer. As a Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for all salaries, wages, personal expenses, and pension administration processing for a section of staff employed by one or more of the Trusts/HA paid by the service, in accordance with procedures, and in accordance with financial timescales and legal requirements.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Process payments for approximately 1300 employees - both weekly and monthly paid
- Ensure payments are correct, which in turn will ensure that budget reports are an accurate reflection of expenditure income
- Maintain all documentation and records pertaining to the section
- Investigate and answer queries both verbal and written
- Propose changes to working practices in the Payroll Department
- Follow payroll procedures/policies and may be asked to comment on service improvements and changes
- Hold responsibility for payments to employees amounting to £17,000,000.00 per annum on average
- Check & verify financial aspects of notified Changes to Contract and Claims Forms totaling more than £1000.00 per month
- Check accuracy of work of colleagues relating to payments to employees
- Train, instruct and demonstrate complex activities, procedures, conditions of service, computer system, and statutory regulation to new staff
- Retrieve information from computerized systems to respond to complex queries from employees and outside agencies
**Requirements**:
- Detailed and specialised knowledge and understanding of Payroll Procedures
- local and national, involving more than 1 Trust
- Detailed knowledge of the Pension Scheme, regulations and administrative procedures
- Knowledge and understanding of Complex Statutory Requirements for PAYE, Statutory Maternity Pay, Statutory Sick Pay, Payment of Tax Credits, Recovery of Student Loans, and Employee Expenses
- Detailed and specialized knowledge and understanding of Computerized Payroll System
- Previous experience of working in a payroll environment
- 5 GCE O Levels, including English & Mathematics or NVQ level 2 equivalent
- NVQ Level4/AAT/Foundation Qualification in Payroll & Pension or equivalent experience
- Ability to organize and prioritize own workload to ensure weekly, monthly and annual financial timetables are met
- Ability to complete complex calculations whilst working under pressure of such deadlines
- Ability to input data into information systems rapidly where accuracy is essential
- Ability to communicate orally, electronically and in writing to employees, managers, and outside agencies, regularly dealing with irate and distressed employees
- Ability to resolve payroll-related problems, and suggest and implement appropriate corrective action through sometimes relatively complex calculations, on an excel spreadsheet and through complex input to computerised payroll system
