We have an exciting opportunity for someone looking to further develop their career in water resources management and planning in Wessex Area.
Supported by our Water Resource Specialist, you will help to protect and improve the quantity of water available for wildlife, people and future generations. You will do this by supporting workloads such as:

- responding to requests for data and information
- supporting the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP)
- contributing to drought planning and response
- supporting the technical requirements of the Water Framework Directive
- providing technical administrative support to other team members

This position will support Technical Specialists in delivering several important work programmes; particularly water company improvement plans; to enable us to meet our local environmental ambitions for Wessex Area and contribute to our EA 25 Year Environment Plan (EA2025). You will work closely with colleagues across the Environment Agency to help deliver specific aspects of our Water Resources Programme.
You will be supported by Water Resources new starter training & development programme, receive coaching from colleagues and be assigned a mentor to help you progress your career.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- You’ll join a fantastic team of environment planners who focus predominantly on water quality, water resources and river basin planning activities. You'll be part of a small technical sub-team of water resource specialists and officers using data and evidence to plan and prioritise the delivery of environmental outcomes across the area. We achieve our outcomes by working with other teams, to ensure we focus on the right activities to drive major investment from others.
- Experience/skills required- We are seeking an individual with a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant environmental discipline. This will be coupled with knowledge and understanding that will give you a platform to quickly become an effective water resources planning officer, who supports a broad range of water resources planning processes.
From your experience to date you will be able to demonstrate some of the following:

- Experience delivering environmental improvements using a range of tools.
- Broad range of relevant technical knowledge.
- Proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator.
- Work effectively as part of a team -sharing skills and experience to deliver results.
- Managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
- Good influencing and persuasion skills.
- Working & communicating with a range of customers and partners.
- Experience using data manipulation and visualisation tools such as Excel, Access and GIS.

Desirable: knowledge of hydrology, awareness of environmental legislation and policies applicable to water resources management.
