protect and repair wild places for the benefit of everyone - has never been more

We are looking for someone with a mix of communications and partnership skills who is looking for

the opportunity to develop their experience working on a landmark project.

This is a new role as the John Muir Trust takes on the interim management of the John Muir Way
- the 134-mile coast-to-coast route from Dunbar to Helensburgh - starting from September 2023.

We’re looking for someone to join our team to help support day-to-day communications, coordination and management of the John Muir Way, specifically co-ordinating activities and plans

for the John Muir Way through partnerships, including with eleven access authorities.

Sitting within the Trust’s Development and Communications team, the role will also support a

project team within the John Muir Trust tasked with taking a lead role to work with external partners

to develop a new vision for the John Muir Way, including investigating new governance and funding

models for the trail. The role will support the project team to develop a business case exploring

options for the long-term management of the John Muir Way.

The post is therefore for an initial 18-month period.

Main responsibilities

Key duties

You will act as a key point of contact for internal and external relationships for the John Muir Way.

Your role will see you interact and maintain records across multiple stakeholders, specifically as a

key member of the project team formed within the Trust and also as a first point of contact for the

public, Trust members and partners relating to John Muir Way activities. You will support the

Trust’s project team to be organised and effective during the period of the interim management, as

the team develops a business case and related proposals for the future management of the John

Muir Way.

- Maintain the John Muir Way website, managing an existing agency partnership.
- Respond to public enquiries about the John Muir Way, providing accurate and timely

responses.
- Maintain an existing merchandise channel and passport scheme, working within the project

team to support an assessment of the future effectiveness and viability of each.
- Support the Project Lead to maintain and report on delivery against an action plan for John

Muir Way activities - including actions to deliver a minimum viable service while new

governance and funding models are developed.
- Support the Project Team in collating information for funding bids.
- Support the Project Lead to prepare agendas and share information for any internal project

meetings.
- Act as a liaison, prepare agendas and share information including any actions for any

external partnership meetings.
- Collaborate with the Trust’s communications team on appropriate, creative and engaging

content for social media channels, aligning the requirements for promotion of the John Muir

Way with the Trust’s overall communications strategies and objectives.
- Support the Trust’s communications team in handling and responding to media enquiries

relating to the John Muir Way.
- Test, monitor, track, analyse and report on performance of the John Muir Way website and

social media channels using tools such as Google Analytics to ensure learnings and

recommendations are incorporated into any future business case.
- Support the Project Lead in researching the feasibility of future governance and funding

models, including supporting with the facilitation of workshops and conversations with

stakeholders.
- Support the Project Lead in maintaining stakeholder mapping for the project.
- Support the Project Lead in maintaining a risk register for the project.
- Other activities as reasonably agreed with your line manager relating to the successful

delivery of the interim management of the John Muir Way and as identified in running the

service for the first time.

Essential skills
- Experience of managing partnerships and or project management.
- Knowledgeable about opportunities to extend reach and engagement with target audiences.
- Excellent communication skills, including experience of website maintenance, and strong

copywriting and editing skills suitable for multiple communications channels.
- Able to collaborate with others as part of a team.
- Creative skills for contributing new and innovative ideas.
- Excellent IT skills, with knowledge of Microsoft Office and digital c
