Chester, United Kingdom CAFOD Full time

**Starting Salary: £33,620 - £35,203 p.a.**

**Contract: 2-year, fixed-term contract**

**Location: Home (living within or very close to the area covered), hybrid or in either the Salford Diocese Volunteer Centre (Manchester) or the Birmingham Archdiocese Volunteer Centre (Walsall)**

**Job Profile**

CAFOD’s work in the Catholic community of England and Wales is to inspire and resource Catholics to participate in the Church’s mission to overcome poverty and injustice in partnership with CAFOD.

CPCs are accountable for delivering CAFOD’s annual participation plans locally across England and Wales. The plan is also focused on enabling parish and school communities to expand the breadth of their participation.

A key part of the CPC’s role is to recruit and support a team of committed, inspired and well-resourced volunteers working in parish and school communities to enable and equip Catholics to connect and understand, give, act and pray.

This particular role covers the parish-focused work in the whole of Shrewsbury Diocese and the northern parts of Birmingham Archdiocese. It is possible that the role will involve covering some schoolwork from time to time if the need arises.

The CPC is part of a regional team of fellow CPCs who have a similar role in other dioceses. The post holder will support the work of the regional team and be supported by their team colleagues through deploying skills, knowledge and at times activity in other parts of the regional team area.

The role will be based either from home (living within or very close to the area covered); or from either of **CAFOD’s Volunteer Centre in Manchester or Walsall,** or hybrid - a mix of home and office based. It is essential that the post holder be mobile and flexible to meet volunteers, clergy and other stakeholders as required. This is likely to require travel (which would be reimbursed by CAFOD) and will involve weekend and evening work; for which time off in lieu is provided.

The post, which is full-time (35 hours per week), reports to the Community Participation Manager for the region.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Delivering participation plans**
- Share accountability for the delivery of annual participation plans for the region (a group of dioceses) with a primary focus on one diocese or area, and share in the delivery of fundraising, education, campaigns, media objectives and targets, as delineated by the participation plan for the region.
- Contribute to the development of activities to achieve objectives in support of and appropriate for local contexts.
- Maintain regular outreach, promotion and relationship building with volunteers and key leaders in parish and school communities and Catholic church networks.

**Managing volunteers**
- Promote volunteer opportunities and recruit and match the offers, skills, experiences and expectations of volunteers with opportunities and needs in relation to CAFOD’s plans for parishioners and children & young people.
- Maintain relationships with a targeted number of volunteers in order to achieve the annual participation plan in the region, ensuring volunteer retention through induction, support, affirmation and effective management of the volunteer throughout their involvement with CAFOD.
- Contribute to the development of volunteer roles and approaches.
- Organise volunteer meetings and training opportunities to be delivered either by the post holder or by team colleagues in CAFOD.
- Ensure volunteer records are accurate and up to date on the database. Monitor and report on recruitment, activity, development and retention of volunteers in the diocese/area.

**Managing relationships and promotion**
- Inspire awareness and ownership of CAFOD’s mission and by building and keep a sound understanding of the needs of the Catholic community by maintaining key relationships including with priests, school staff and others within a diocese as determined in the regional plan. Be the point of contact with the local Bishop.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with diocesan media and be a point of contact for local news media, to increase opportunities for Catholics to hear about CAFOD’s work, working with media volunteers where possible.
- Actively communicate through social media with volunteers, parishes and schools, establishing a warm positive and responsive presence of CAFOD amongst local networks.
