Band 7 Clinical Procurement Specialist

**Job summary**:
The post holder will be part of the Procurement team and take a pivotal role in delivering significant cost improvements in a creative, strategic and innovative way relating to commercial income and expenditure contracts in order to assist the Trust in meeting its financial targets and objectives.
You will take responsibility for the delivery of specified clinical procurement projects requiring specialist qualified nursing / midwifery or other qualified clinical practitioner knowledge and skills and to do so in prescribed timelines.
The role will be working across a number of Trusts including University Hospitals Birmingham, Birmingham Womens and Childrens Hospital, The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham Community Healthcare and Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. Hours available are 37.5 hours and 15 hours per week.
**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The post holder will work closely with clinical and non-clinical colleagues who use or order clinical supplies and equipment, to critically review current purchasing policy, practice and procedures and to identify opportunities to improve value for money.
Work with identified clinical experts within specialities to secure commitment to agreed purchasing plans and or product formularies.
Influence clinical procurement procedures across the Trusts and ensuring that change is managed through a quality impact assessment process.
Lead on a portfolio of divisional clinical projects assigned by the Head of Clinical Products. Work with clinical staff and procurement staff to find, analyse and present highly complex data on clinical products - e.g. choice, usage, trends - in order to generate options and ultimately achieve consensus on product compatibility / standardisation.
Promote best practice and governance across the Trust in procurement and specific clinical matters.
Initiate and manage specific clinical product evaluation projects, taking into account existing local and national guidelines (e.g. NICE) and best practice, involving the product users at every stage.
Promote awareness and understanding within the Trust of the function and usage of products within the materials management (stock control) teams, increase understanding of clinical concerns and issues and the positive impact of effective clinical procurement strategies on the quality of patient care.

Registered Practitioner - Nurse RGN Physiotherapist, Radiographer, Operating Department Practitioner, Paramedic
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
- Maintenance of clinical registration, ensuring in-depth clinical knowledge/experience
- Post graduate qualification or equivalent significant in depth senior level experience (2 years)
- Experience of purchasing and clinical procurement practices
