We are seeking a Lecturer to work predominantly across the undergraduate BA Hons Product Design programme and related disciplines at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), and the postgraduate MSc Service Management and Design programme at Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI).

In time, they will be expected to supervise PhD students, and will be responsible for designing and running core courses / modules in Design and across EFI. Their appointment will widen the portfolio of teaching expertise in Service Design at ECA, contributing research, theory and practice perspectives regarding key aspects of service design, including but not limited to the topics of Experience Design, Service Innovation, Service Prototyping, Systemic Design, Participatory Design, Journey Mapping, User Experiences, Design Thinking, Service Dominant Logic, Data-Driven Services.

**The Opportunity**:

- To contribute expertise and experience in the development and delivery of Service Design to teaching programmes in Design at the Edinburgh College of Art (ECA), and Service Management and Design at the Edinburgh Futures Institute (EFI).
- To undertake research, teaching, supervision, training, programme management and administration, pedagogical development, and related academic citizenship roles across Design/ECA and the Edinburgh Futures Institute, in order to support their strategic goals and enhance the student experience.
- To engage and effectively disseminate world-leading teaching and research (which could be practice-led) as part of the post-holder’s disciplinary or interdisciplinary practice in Service Design, representing Design, ECA, EFI and the University internationally.
- To contribute to developing interdisciplinary and collaborative research with groups in ECA, and across allied disciplines at EFI and within the wider community of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
- To contribute to the overall academic development of the University of Edinburgh and to its positive and constructive engagement with the wider place and communities within which it is situated.

**Your skills and attributes for success**
- A PhD in an appropriate discipline, or possession of commensurate extensive experience in design practice, service design, policy engagement, or other highly appropriate fields for contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate design teaching programmes
- Proven ability to conduct, publish, and otherwise disseminate world-leading research in peer-reviewed journals, exhibitions and books.
- Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning methods in higher education, and demonstrable ability to teach service design to undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Demonstrated specialism (in teaching and research) in the area of service design.
- Knowledge and familiarity with related debates in cognate fields such as product design, service innovation, design thinking, design research, psychology, social sciences and their contribution to the wider contexts of design’s role in changing global contexts.
- Demonstrable management and/or organisational experience: e.g. research seminars, conferences, courses, funded research projects, summer schools, hiring research assistant, working with teaching assistants etc.
- Possession of effective written and oral communication skills in a range of contexts (e.g., teaching, oral presentations, and publications), as well as good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Possession of effective skills in digital platforms as required to conduct effective day to day business
- Being self-motivated, and able to work independently, as well as collaboratively, understanding the importance of cooperation.
- Able to plan and initiate activities and projects and develop self and others.
- Ability to work in a flexible and pro-active manner.
- Ability to engage with a range of teaching mediums (including experiential, and online and distance learning).
- A demonstrable commitment to the principles and practices of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the classroom and the workplace.
