Job overview

The Neurosurgery department is looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to lead the neurosurgical trauma team in delivering, developing and expanding the service for patients suffering from Neuro-Trauma and closely allied conditions. The post requires flexible working within the team to provide a high quality and responsive service. The post holder will work alongside the existing neuro-trauma team to undertake clinical assessment and make recommendations in line with agreed standards of care. Effective communication skills are essential in this role in order to lead the team and effectivly co-ordinate the neurotrauma service including ward rounds, MDT’s and both inpatient and outpatient reviews.

Main duties of the job

In addition to the below summary you need to familiarize yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert.

The post holder will be an advocate for patients, carers and their families, promoting patient focused care and act as a resource for the multi-agency team. It is anticipated that this will improve patient experience, prevent unnecessary ED attendances, hospital admissions and decrease length of stay.

In addition, the post holder will have line management responsibility for a small team of practitioners.

Working for our organisation

The Neurosurgical Unit at NUH is a busy Tertiary Centre accepting referrals from across the East Midlands. The neurotrauma service is a new innovation and since it's inception has rapidly grown and made significant improvements for patients who have suffered neuro trauma. We are looking for an innovative and caring individual to lead in continuing the development of our service into the future.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The role will involve the delivery of an effective transition from inpatient to early discharge, ensuring follow up and advice for ongoing care is provided. The post holder will be required to attend weekly Neuro-Trauma ward rounds, the Neuro-Trauma MDT and ensure timely follow-up and safety netting for recently discharged patients via telephone and face to face clinical assessments within the Neurosurgery Unit. In addition, it is envisaged the service will develop to provide advice and assessment to outlying patients and teaching to staff within NUH and the referring hospitals.
Applicants should be registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) or equivalent.
