Compass Key Worker
**Hours: 18.5 per week**
**Contract Type: Permanent**
**Service Area: People and Communities**
**Department: Youth Justice Service**
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Support Worker to work with Bath and North-East Somerset (B&NES) Compass - which is a preventative crime service that is part of the Youth Justice Service. The post is 18.5 hours per week with 2-full day’s and 1-half day spread over Wednesday - Friday.
Compass works with young people from the ages of 8-17 years old who are assessed to be at risk of becoming involved in offending behaviour.
**A little more about our team**:
We sit alongside the YJS which is a multi-agency team with staff from a range of backgrounds including Police, Health, Social Care, Education and Probation. Compass has the benefit of accessing specialist support for the clients we work with. We are part of B&NES commitment to offering early help support for families and young people whose needs require targeted support. Overall, we believe in the following:
- That harmful behaviour can often be an indicator of children’s unmet needs and support for parents and carers is critical for supporting young people to make safer, healthier choices and avoid being harmed or harming others.
- The promotion of a childhood removed from the justice system, using prevention, diversion and mínimal intervention. All work minimises stigma from contact with the system.
- The quality of the relationship between Compass worker and the young person & their family is central to supporting change and reducing the likelihood of becoming involved in offending behaviour. We think of young people’s needs and risk of potential adverse outcomes as shaped by & within their family and community contexts. We adopt a ‘Think Family’ and ‘Think Community’ approach.
- Build on children’s individual strengths and capabilities as a means of developing a pro-social identity for sustainable desistance from crime. This leads to safer communities and fewer victims. All work is constructive and future-focused, built on supportive relationships that empower children to fulfil their potential and make positive contributions to society.
Compass is striving to become an excellent service for young people, parents and carers tailoring the level of support in line with the level of need. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Compass Keyworker to join our team. If you have experience of working with children and young people, parents and carers, assessing their needs and co-creating a support plan to make positive changes then we are looking for you. The post holder should be able to travel across Bath and North East Somerset to support clients.
If you are looking for a varied and challenging new role, to take part in work with young people and local communities to achieve positive change, then this opportunity could be for you We can offer membership of a supportive, restorative, multi-disciplinary team, the opportunity to extend your skills through regular supervision, performance review and training.
Your main place of work will be the award-winning, modern Civic Centre in Keynsham, halfway between Bath and Bristol, easily accessible via car or public transport, with a train station 5 minutes’ walk away.
