**Job Title**: SEND Teaching and Care Assistant

**Salary**:£20,744 Full-Time Equivalent (Actual salary will be pro-rata down for term-time only dates)

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic SEND Teaching and Care Assistant to join our team at Thornton College. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment where you will be responsible for providing the highest standards of support to students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities during scheduled teaching and learning sessions, enabling them to access learning opportunities to the best of their ability.

**Responsibilities**:

- Meet and greet students on and off transport and complete appropriate records of attendance.
- Escort and assist students with mobility difficulties, ensuring they can access all areas of the College and whilst out on education and social trips.
- Meet the personal care needs of students such as hygiene, utilising specialist equipment for mobility and toileting.
- Supervising students who self-administer medication and administering emergency medication if required.
- Provide First Aid if required and ensure a safe and accessible environment for all, reporting any issues promptly when this is not the case.
- Supervise students at break time and lunch times and where applicable support with feeding.
- Support learners during timetabled sessions with the scheme of work as set out by the class Lecturer—support learners' progression by utilising their ILP targets and Schemes of Work to set objectives and reviewing these regularly.
- Participate in regular planning discussions with allocated class lecturer(s) to ensure that support is appropriate and effective, reflect and evaluate continuously to stretch and challenge learners on an individual basis.
- Accompany students in and out of classes and during educational and social skills development visits encouraging development of self-esteem, confidence, and independence.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Empathy, sensitivity and ability to develop and sustain rapport with staff and students.
- Has high expectations of self and others
- Builds positive relationships with others maintaining mutual trust and respect

**Desirable Criteria**:

- NVQ level 2 in Care
- Level 2 Specialist Teaching Worker Award and or Learning Support Certificate
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Experience of working with people with differing needs/disabilities/learning difficulties within an education environment or other relevant organisation
- Be able to work effectively with other staff to ensure the prevention and management of challenging behaviours in a non-confrontational, non-judgemental manner using a consistent approach and following College guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
- Experience of supporting students with multiple learning disabilities (MLD) within an educational environment.
