**JOB PURPOSE**:
The role of Engagement Worker will be primarily to assist in improving the outcomes and life chances of children, young people and their families in Leicestershire. This specialist role will help to develop our approach to working with perpetrators of domestic abuse by working directly with them to assess and support their understanding of abuse, violence & controlling behaviour and its impact on both adult and child victims.

It will be the role of Engagement workers to:

- Develop positive working relationships with perpetrators of domestic abuse (adults who cause harm) using a strengths-based, trauma-informed, motivational and culturally sensitive approach. This will mean promoting equality as an integral part of the role, treating everyone with fairness and dignity.
- Provide high quality direct work and group work interventions to perpetrators of domestic abuse whose children are assessed to be at risk of significant harm, or requiring Child in Need services. This will be as part of the Domestic Abuse Intervention team and within a context of ensuring the personal safety of those involved.
- Provide one-to-one support and challenge to perpetrators of domestic abuse whose children are assessed to be at risk of significant harm or requiring Child in Need services, using session plans designed specifically to help perpetrators consider the impact of Domestic Abuse and conflict on children. The aim of this work is to help people stop using abusive behaviour towards an intimate partner and others, and to support them to engage with programmes of support, such as the Second Step programme or Caring Dads.
- Deliver group work interventions, such as Caring Dads, and use recognised tools, interventions, and approaches, such as the Safe and Together model and Signs of Safety principles.
- Co-work cases, working with the perpetrator independently from the allocated Social Worker. The Perpetrator Engagement Worker will be required to communicate and share information with the Social Worker and other professionals working with the family to ensure there is a whole family approach and to ensure that the safety of child and adult victims remains at the centre of all interventions and decision making.
- Attend relevant meetings such as Core Group meetings or ICPCs, sharing information to ensure there is a whole family approach to this work and that the perpetrator is directly connected and involved in developing the safety plan for the child/family.
- Contribute to meaningful engagement with partner agencies in the area of domestic abuse including around training, participation in multi-agency forums and addressing issues emerging through case work.

**ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS**:

- Experience of working with service users either individually or in groups who may present with difficult and challenging problems.
- Up to date knowledge of housing, criminal, civil and welfare rights legislation relating to domestic violence.
- Ability to work proactively, persistently and persuasively with individuals who may not be willing to engage with services, using a range of techniques that encourage active participation
- Ability to manage a caseload and ensure plans are developed with individuals, which have clear outcomes that are measurable and also understandable
- Ability to build professional confidence and resilience, good working relationships with individuals, ability to over-come barriers to them engaging, recognising reasons for resistance to change, where tensions can exist.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to produce reports, maintain records, and provide data for monitoring purposes
- Proven ability to recognise Child Protection issues and Safeguarding practice
- Experience of providing direct support and challenge to children, young people and families with complex needs, which may include mental health, offending, substance misuse, Domestic Abuse, and educational issues.
- Experience of delivering appropriate evidence-based group work interventions, e.g. the Freedom Programme or Triple P or Solihull parenting programmes.
- Experience of working with issues of conflict and confrontation, and an ability to diffuse difficult situations.
- Assessment skills and knowledge of risk factors associated with offenders /Perpetrators of domestic abuse.
- Working knowledge of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021
- Possession of a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle. However, a reasonable adjustment will be considered for an applicant with a disability.
