**Closing Date**: 06 December 2023

The Role

Newcastle University has an opening for Head of Biomedical Research Software in the Haniffa Lab.

The team works in the Biosciences Institute, and with a range of external partners including the Wellcome Sanger Institute. The Haniffa Lab applies disruptive techniques to understand how the immune system develops and maintains health. You will be responsible for leading the dry lab team and providing high-level strategic leadership for the provision of Research Software Engineering (RSE) services for the lab.

You will ultimately be responsible for leading the delivery of technical projects through the management and allocation of resources across multiple simultaneous projects, including the creation of new opportunities, grant writing, reporting and supervision of multiple senior professional staff and academics.

You will have an PhD in a computationally based field (equivalent experience or close to completion), as well as proven experience of software development. You will also have extensive experience leading large, complex, cross organisational projects.

The Haniffa lab is a leader in the international Human Cell Atlas initiative to systematically map all cells in the body and across the lifespan. Our lab applies disruptive omics technologies to study human cells at single-cell resolution. We make use of state-of-the-art single cell technologies, to understand how the immune system develops and maintains health, and study the consequences of infection, inflammation and disease. We provide a multifaceted computing infrastructure including a powerful LSF cluster, GPU access, an OpenStack cloud architecture, and easy access to interactive notebooks for convenient day-to-day data analysis.
