The Oncology Research Team supports the delivery of clinical research studies, enabling children and young people to take part in safe, ethically approved clinical research. Researchers are supported by a team of specialist research support staff including Investigators, Paediatric Oncology Research Nurses, Data Managers, Biological Samples Coordinators and Clinical Trials Coordinators.

The role of the Clinical Trials Co-ordinator is to assist in the running of the clinical research studies within the Haematology / Oncology department at Birmingham Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will ideally have experience of clinical research ideally in a study/trial coordinator role, with a sound working knowledge of current UK clinical trials regulations and Good Clinical Practice requirements. They must possess strong problem solving and analytical skills and be able to work to tight deadlines. He/she will be required to work flexibly and to organise their workload and cope with conflicting demands on their time but prioritise their work accordingly. The nature of the role requires excellent communication and organisation skills and a high level of computer literacy.

Much of the work is confidential in nature and the post holder is expected to adhere to BCH information governance and confidentiality policies.

Responsibilities include overall day to day coordination of trial activities in compliance with current UK regulations, developing study documentation, organising regular trial management meetings, supporting monitoring visits and inspections and maintenance of research databases and records.

The post holder will join the Haematology / Oncology research team based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and will be managerially accountable to the BSC (Blood, Stem Cell and Cancer) Service Manager. They will work closely with the Principal and Co-investigators and other clinical and administrative members of the research teams.
