**A Communications Adviser is required to lead the planning, co-ordination and implementation of communications and marketing activity ensuring key messages are consistently applied, using the full range of communication channels and tools including liaison with the media. **Key responsibilities:

- Support the development and delivery of the Communication Strategy.
- Develop and deliver the key organisational messages and campaigns for external and internal audiences, embedding digital communications in everything.
- Offer advice and consultancy, and direct support, to all services to ensure excellent standards for all campaigns and communications.
- Take complex messages and translate them into readable and engaging copy and ensure consistency and accuracy of messages.
- Make best use of digital communication including social media to engage residents, promote stories and raise the profile of the organisation.
- Support the delivery of a high standard, comprehensive and integrated media management service including handling media enquiries and crisis communications.
- Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with national, regional, and local media daily
- Ensure that policies and decisions are communicated to the media in a way that supports the client in its statutory role and ensures that the image and standing of the client is maintained.
- Ensure the efficient distribution media releases and, where appropriate, participate in press conferences and briefings.
- Use research and knowledge about resident profiles and needs, to focus messages and information for differing audiences using a range of channels.
- Maximise the potential for income generation including sponsorship for campaigns and events, promotion, and co-ordination of filming locations and identifying new opportunities.

- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
- A relevant professional qualification e.g., CIPR, CAM, CIM, NCTJ or equivalent experience.
- Good knowledge of budget management.
- Knowledge of working in local government or the public sector.
- Knowledge of the latest marketing and digital communications techniques and approaches.
- Knowledge of measuring effective marketing activity.
- Knowledge of how to get best use out of social media in a communications/ campaign and media relations context.
- Knowledge of working within a political environment is preferred, along with an understanding of the statutory requirements and legal constraints of working within local government.

**Experience**:

- At least 3 years’ experience of working in a media liaison/ PR, marketing, campaigns, or internal communications role.
- Experience of all aspects of campaign work, including market research, planning, delivery, and evaluation.
- Experience of operating at a high level of concentration over a range of activities with high levels of workload pressure.
- Experience of using own initiative to progress work on behalf of senior staff.
- Experience of project management.
- Experience of working with computer-based systems including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Electronic Mail, Internet and social media.
- Experience of dealing with media enquiries.
- Experience of working within a political environment, along with an understanding of the statutory requirements and legal constraints of working within local government.
- Experience of developing and implementing internal communication campaigns.

- Proven excellent project management and organisational skills.
- Creative flair and ability to translate business needs into high impact campaigns and communication programmes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships across a wide range of contacts.
- Ability to work under pressure, determine priorities and progress a variety of tasks.
- Able to work as a team member and to help to deliver team goals.
- Ability to exercise discretion, judgement and ensure confidentiality when dealing with members and officers at every level.
