**An Environmental Health Officer is required to participate in the provision of the Local Authority investigation of Statutory Nuisances and associated Environmental Protection Team functions.** Key responsibilities:
- Provide expert EP advice on Planning Applications and Licensing Consultations.
- Investigate complaints relating to statutory nuisance and Environmental Protection areas requiring EH public health intervention.
- Manage the installation, collection, analysis, and feedback of evidence gathered by using the Environmental Protection Teams sound recording equipment.
- Complete work outside of normal office hours were instructed by the Public Protection Strategic Lead or Team Manager.
- Maintain accurate records of the activities undertaken to address complaints on the Uniform IDOX document management system / complaints database.
- Assist the Public Protection Strategic Lead and EP Team Manager to provide a comprehensive Environmental Protection service.
- Work with partner organisations as required achieving the Team’s objectives to improve the environment in the area and increase the detection of and resolution of problems that impact on the environment and public health.
- Compile reports, statements, and schedules etc for the consideration of managers and to be used in legal proceedings to enforce legislation within the team’s area of responsibility.
- Be able to complete comprehensive prosecution files, witness statements and Interviews under Caution, in line with the Department’s model prosecution file.
- Attend court or other such tribunals as a witness for the authority in legal actions relating to the work of the team.
- Investigate complaints made concerning the work of the team and to prepare responses to such complaints.
- Recommend to Public Protection Strategic Lead or Team Manager remedial actions to address matters raised by complainants that highlight shortcomings in the initial response.
- Manage any assigned investigations, projects, or promotions under the direction of Team Manager.

- Experience in serving abatement notices, collating evidence, and prosecution files.
- Have experience of effectively using a sound level meter, analysing recorded data and its appropriate feedback.
- Experience of investigating nuisance complaints from domestic and commercial premises.
- Experience of resolving complaints relating to statutory nuisances and public health.
Knowledge:
- A sound understanding of the legal practice and procedures relating to Environmental Protection and public health.
- A working knowledge of the law relating to statutory nuisances.
- Knowledge of Environmental Protection standards.
Skills/Technical skills:
- Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills needed to secure compliance through education, discussion, and persuasion and to address management meetings etc.
- Good writing skills with the ability to produce high quality reports, letters, permits, statements etc.
- Capable of presenting information clearly to meetings of small to medium sized groups.
- Capable of effectively organising and prioritising your own workload and that of officers assigned to assist you in carrying out the Environmental Protection function.
- Ability to analyse and administer complex and sensitive and confidential information whilst complying with all legislation relevant for use and storage of such data.
- Effective project management e.g., execution of initiatives and promotional activities designed to enhance compliance with environmental protection legislation and standards.
- Capable of interpreting and analysing numerical data
- Ability to use PC virtual desktops, mobile working methods and technology.
- Be able to confidently attend court with the appropriate experience and competencies this would require.
