**Job summary**:
We are seeking an experienced HCPC registered diagnostic radiographer who is looking for a different perspective to their career development. The Medical Exposures Group is a multidisciplinary team of experienced radiographers and clinical scientists who provide advice and support to a wide range of organisations and individuals on matters relating to medical exposures. The advice, on regulatory and radiation protection issues and safe clinical practice in the UK, is provided to organisations including government, professional bodies, health care professionals, hospitals and clinics.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring your clinical knowledge and experience to a specialist team whilst maintaining your expertise in the latest developments in diagnostic and interventional radiology. You will be given time to undertake clinical placements, ensuring that your practical skills and competence can be maintained by working at a range of centres. Attendance at meetings and conferences is also anticipated.

A key aspect of this post will cover the relationship between clinical practice and legislative requirements, in particular those relating to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations [IR(ME)R]. An element of the work involves accompanying IR(ME)R inspectors in the devolved administrations to clinical departments, providing support and advice on compliance with the regulations during the inspection process.

**Job description**:
The post holder will:

- Provide up-to-date independent expert advice on matters associated with_ _diagnostic imaging and related radiation protection issues to service users
- Provide input into radiation protection issues relating to own area of practice to promote and improve patient safety in the clinical environment
- Act as an independent source of advice to patients and members of the public on matters concerning ionising radiation use in medicine
- Liaise with national and international stakeholders to include patients, healthcare professionals, professional bodies associated with diagnostic imaging, government bodies, inspectorates for IR(ME)R for the devolved administrations and members of the public on matters pertaining to their field of expertise
- Support and advice to inspectors during inspections on the implementation of IR(ME)R in clinical practice as required
- Under contract, arrange and undertake site visits to departments/clinics using ionising radiation for diagnostic and interventional purposes to help achieve compliance with IR(ME)R. These visits are undertaken independently and advice is also given on key safety issues making reference to national and international guidance and legislation
- Provide advice remotely to departments and clinics using ionising radiation for diagnostic purposes to help achieve compliance with IR(ME)R
- Develop, plan and undertake tasks that will support the diagnostic imaging initiative
- Communicate the details and outcomes of work through written reports
- Work with collaborators / partners from other organisations including the NHS and_ _professional bodies
- Source of specialist expertise for the Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards Directorate within the post holder’s area of expertise
- May be required to assist in the production of advice/standards by national or international bodies in their field of expertise
- Observe and comply with Data Protection and all other relevant legislation, and UKHSA Governance procedures
- Liaise with national and international stakeholders to include patients, healthcare professionals, professional bodies associated with diagnostic imaging, inspectorates for IR(ME)R for the devolved administrations, government bodies and members of the public on matters pertaining to their field of expertise.

- The training of stakeholders in radiation protection and patient safety issues
- Participation in the UKHSA response to emergencies and exercises, in accordance with the roles described in the UKHSA Emergency Plan
