Welfare Rights Officer - advising people about their entitlement to benefits, helping them to make claims and challenge decisions to get the most help that is available to them.

This role is based in the Customer Service Centre at Bartholomew House, Brighton.

**About the role**:
You will be helping to improve lives of people with complex needs and vulnerabilities, by supporting them with their claims for welfare benefits, such as Personal Independence Payment and Employment Support Allowance. You will need to use a mixture of technical knowledge, empathy and clear communication to build trust with your clients. At times, you will be challenging decisions about their benefits, preparing mandatory reconsideration requests, and preparing and presenting cases at Appeals tribunals.

You will also deliver training programmes along with your colleagues, providing sessions on welfare benefit issues to colleagues within the Local Authority and in the voluntary sector.

**Additional information**:
Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
