Band 7 Labour Ward Co-ordinator
- part time, 28.75 hours per week

We are looking for an energetic and charismatic midwife to join our existing labour ward co-ordinators in Basingstoke. You might be an existing band 7 wishing to broaden your horizons or an experienced band 6 midwife looking for your next opportunity, training and development will be offered.

You will be responsible for the overall safety of the acute site during your shift, escalating concerns to the Matron on call when the arise. You should have excellent clinical experience and be able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve best outcomes for women and their families.

You should be a strong visible leader with clinical midwifery expertise and the ability to deal with complex clinical situational activity whilst coordinating the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). We are looking for a role model demonstrating the highest professional standards of practice with a comprehensive understanding of safety, quality assurance and risk assessment in a labour ward setting.

To promote excellence in midwifery practice and uphold the Behaviour Framework encouraging a positive culture.

To coordinate the MDT and take the lead for arranging safety huddles and inclusive handovers.

Provide visible clinical leadership through effective monitoring, implementation of evidence-based standards.

To supervise and support all levels of staff when delegating women’s care to staff appropriately

To take responsibility within their specialist role for supporting the education and training of junior staff, students, maternity support workers and ward environment support staff.

Be responsible for overseeing and coordinating clinical antenatal/intrapartum and postnatal midwifery care to women within the labour ward setting and advise the midwives working on the antenatal and postnatal wards.

To actively engage in leading a Quality Improvement (QI) project to benefit the experience of women and staff accessing the labour ward environment.

To develop evidence-based practice and to be actively involved in research and audit and QI projects.

To act as a champion for safety, escalation, and effective learning through communication

Facilitate new ways of working.

To provide a flexible approach ensuring consistency in cover for the Labour Ward Coordinators’ rota.

Commit to and undertake clinical on-calls for the maternity unit
