The Paediatric team at HHFT are looking to appoint 2 substantive Paediatric Consultants to support acute general paediatrics, neonatal care, and outpatients. These are replacement posts on the Basingstoke & North Hampshire site. We are a friendly, dynamic department which can offer excellent clinical experience in a supported environment within a lovely part of the country. Hampshire hospitals is within an hour of London & also an hour of the coast, it has excellent schools, housing & amenities. The posts would suit a new consultant or a consultant wishing to relocate locally. Part time applicants will also be encouraged. The jobs will be primarily based at Basingstoke Hospital initially although cross site working is encouraged and may be part of all consultant roles in due course. The clinical strategy for HHFT envisages a centralised paediatric and neonatal inpatient service that will be provided at a new build hospital, with all consultants contributing to the development of this combined service across Hampshire.

On calls at consultant level will involve covering the general paediatric ward and admissions, level 1 neonatal unit, labour ward and transitional care. The posts will also include a small number of resident night shifts. The involvement of consultants in the middle grade rota helps to reduce admissions and increases quality of care, while providing some security from the national shortage of trainees and middle grade paediatricians.

This post would suit a recently qualified consultant as a step up to consultant working in our supportive department, as well as more experienced consultants. We operate a consultant of the week system, in addition to outpatients and a separate safeguarding session which is currently split equally amongst the team. There will be time within the individual’s job plan to pursue other specialist interests within general paediatrics, SPIN modules, and there are leadership and other developmental opportunities available and encouraged.

**Who we are**: Our Paediatric teams are responsible for:
- **Inpatient wards**: - G2 in Basingstoke has 28 inpatient beds. We provide inpatient care for a range of specialties including medical, surgical, ENT and orthopaedic admissions.

**Paediatric Assessment Units (PAU), BNHH - Charlie’s Day Unit**:
The assessment unit is adjacent to the main paediatric ward. Local GPs have immediate access to an expert Paediatric opinion on any child requiring urgent assessment. Children referred for a paediatric opinion from Accident & Emergency are also seen in the PAU.

**Outpatients**:
There is a dedicated paediatric outpatient area adjacent to each paediatric ward with over 8000 attendances each year. There are daily general paediatric clinics, special interest clinics plus visiting specialist clinics in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, cystic fibrosis, and surgery.

**Neonatal Care**:
Level 1 neonatal intensive care is provided as part of the South Central Neonatal Network. The Department has close links for tertiary services with the University Hospital Southampton and joint clinics with colleagues are held in the following specialties, surgery, cardiology, neurology, endocrinology, nephrology, gastroenterology and rheumatology.
