The Department hosts a leading specialist service for Movement Disorders and provides all three device assisted therapies. This includes Deep Brain Stimulation (one of the largest programmes in the UK), Duodopa intestinal gel (currently between 12-20 new patients established per year) and Apomorphine infusion. The service covers all types of movement disorders conditions , from the point of diagnosis to the palliative stage. The service is delivered from the newly refurbished Bristol Brain Centre which affords an integrated clinical, research, and education space for the areas of clinical movement disorders, dementia, and multiple sclerosis. The Bristol Brain Centre combines NHS, University and third sector organisations to support our activities. There are also dedicated movement disorders in-patient beds are within the Rosa Burden Unit.

The clinical movement disorders group have an active programme of research and education and collaborate nationally and internationally. The post holder will be expected to teach and participate in the movement disorders education programme. There will be opportunity to support and directly deliver movement disorders research. The movement disorders MDT based in the Bristol Brain Centre includes more than 20 people across clinical care and research.

**Communications and Relationships**:
The post holder will be expected to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. The post holder will be empathetic and sensitive to patients needs and able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information.

**Responsibility for Patient Care**:
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his or her charge and for the proper functioning of the service and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.

**Responsibility for People Management**:
The Post Holder will be expected to provide compassionate leadership to their clinical teams. This may include multi-agency teams within Primary and Secondary Care. They will be responsible for the supervision of junior staff within their team and will lead by example and with compassion.

**Teaching and Supervision of Junior Medical Staff & Students**:
We aim to support the development of all our doctors, whilst maintain an environment where patient and staff safety is paramount. A key element of that is ensuring high quality clinical and educational supervision.

**Partnership working**:
The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external stakeholders and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service.

The post will include 2 specialist movement disorder clinics per week (alternating DBS clinics and botulinum toxin clinics), day-case movement disorder reviews, movement disorder ward consultations and supporting the movement disorders MDT and broader activities.

The post also includes 1.5 general neurology clinics per week. Once a month a general neurology clinic will be replaced by a neurology hot-clinic. For between 2-4 weeks per year all activity will be replaced with being the neurology consultant providing cover to the general neurology ward.

General neurology and in-patient neurology is delivered from the £400 million state of the art Brunel Building.
