Neurology Consultant

The post will include 2 specialist cognitive disorders clinic per week, Huntington clinics 1 week in every month and provision will be made for developing a monoclonal antibodies service and clinical trial work.
The post also includes 1.75 general neurology clinics per week. Once a month a general neurology clinic will be replaced by a neurology hot-clinic. For between 2-4 weeks per year all activity will be replaced with being the neurology consultant providing cover to the general neurology ward.
The postholder will also partake in the Stroke on call rota, at a frequency of 1:10
General neurology and in-patient neurology is delivered from the £400 million state of the art Brunel Building.
The post-holder will join 22 consultant neurologists who collectively provide general neurology and broad a range of sub-specialist interests within the Department of Neurology at North Bristol Trust (NBT).
**Communications and Relationships**:
The post holder will be expected to have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues. The post holder will be empathetic and sensitive to patients needs and able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information.
**Responsibility for Patient Care**:
The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his or her charge and for the proper functioning of the service and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.
**Responsibility for People Management**:
The Post Holder will be expected to provide compassionate leadership to their clinical teams. This may include multi-agency teams within Primary and Secondary Care. They will be responsible for the supervision of junior staff within their team and will lead by example and with compassion.
**Teaching and Supervision of Junior Medical Staff & Students**:
We aim to support the development of all our doctors, whilst maintain an environment where patient and staff safety is paramount. A key element of that is ensuring high quality clinical and educational supervision.
**Partnership working**:
The post holder will be required to work in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines, external stakeholders and service users, to ensure the creation of a quality service.

The appointment is within the Cognitive Service at North Bristol NHS Trust. This is a new post.
The Department hosts a leading regional specialist service for cognitive disorders and Huntington’s disease, focusing on early accurate diagnosis of cognitive neurodegenerative disorders with access to cutting edge diagnostics. The service is delivered from the newly refurbished Bristol Brain Centre which affords an integrated clinical, research, and education space for the areas of cognitive disorders, movement disorders, and multiple sclerosis. The Bristol Brain Centre combines NHS, University and third sector organisations to support our activities. We work closely with our neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry colleagues within the Rosa Burden Unit during the diagnostic and therapeutic arms of this service.
