We are looking for individuals with or without experience of working in healthcare, to join the NHS family helping people from your local community. Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) opportunities are available at Airedale Hospital in our Children's outpatient department.

No experience? No problem. We will teach you everything you need to know.

To us, it is more important that you are a caring and kind person with a genuine desire to help and support children and their families who attend our outpatient department. Working as a Healthcare Support Worker in a hospital means you will need to be flexible and able to work various shifts which covers the service needs (Monday to Friday).

The Healthcare Support Worker role can also lead to a range of career opportunities. With the right support, those who want to can undertake the necessary training to become our future nurses, nursing associates and midwives.

As a Health Care Support Worker, you will be a hugely valuable support to our Nursing and Midwifery teams providing care to our patients. Every day will be different, and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks to support an efficient and safe clinics.

Examples of what you may do as part of your role

Helping patients to move around

Talking to patients and their families

Monitoring patient conditions

Supporting with procedures such as blood tests

Greeting and booking patients into clinics

Supporting with developmental assessments

You will need to be flexible to allow you to cover clinics Monday to Friday. Some clinics are held off site so you must be able to drive

Support

We offer an initial two-week induction and training programme for HCSW’s. This includes learning about the Hospital and all the core skills you will need such as preventing infection and how to provide direct care. You will have some learning with registered nurses and other days specifically for HCSW. For anyone new to care, we then offer two weeks support working alongside an experienced HCSW in clinical practice, learning the role before being included in the staffing numbers. We will support you to achieve a Care Certificate during your first few months if you do not already have one.

We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide the service to patients in their care homes. Community matters to us and we are supported by 400 dedicated volunteers and have strong links with Bradford University, Craven college and Leeds City College to ensure we inspire the workforce of the future.
