Maternity Vaccination Lead

As the Maternity Vaccination Lead, the post holder will lead, manage and support a dynamic team delivering a safe and effective maternity vaccination service. The post holder will also undertake activities such as information-giving and promoting vaccination to eligible women; clinical assessment; dilution and drawing up of vaccines from multi-dose vials (where relevant); administration; documentation in maternity records and national databases; and notifications to General Practitioners (GP’s).

The inactivated seasonal flu vaccine and the whooping cough vaccine, are recommended during pregnancy to protect the health of pregnant people and their babies. As the Maternity Vaccination Lead, the post holder will lead, manage and support a dynamic team delivering a safe and effective maternity vaccination service. - Maintain accurate patient records, including manual and electronic information systems, in line with professional standards and local guidelines
- Support the implementation of systems for clinical governance including the resolution of complaints and adverse incidents. Signpost patients to the Patient, Advice and Liaison Service.
- Ensure communication channels are used appropriately and effectively to facilitate the flow of information throughout the Division
- Respond to queries and liaise with the Outpatient matron, where appropriate
- Provide specialist advice and technical services in relation to the care of patients considering and receiving vaccinations
- Handle difficult conversations (sensitive, language barriers, hostile atmosphere) and convert complex technical information into easily to understand communication
- Facilitate specialist training to vaccination staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team training and the use of protocols as needed
- Work as an effective team member, demonstrate good personal communication skills and actively promote excellent team and interdisciplinary relationships
- Demonstrate appropriate assertiveness and ability to challenge others when the rights of patients may be affected
- Liaise with other disciplines and agencies as required in the planning and implementation of patient care
- Liaise with and work as an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, acting as an expert resource, building and maintaining effective working relationships, both within the Trust and with other service providers as required.
- Line manage, supervise and support the vaccination team, providing clinical supervision, organising staff and resources to meet service standards and workload demands, dealing with sickness absence, recruiting staff, allocating work and monitoring, and performance management.
