Cesr Fellow/ Registrar in Emergency Medicine
4 days ago
**Job overview**:
The Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals’ NHS Trust is excited to be expanding its CESR Fellowship Training Programme, offering opportunities for motivated doctors to join our dynamic and friendly Emergency Medicine team, as part of a £10.5 million investment to significantly expand our medical workforce over the next 3 years.
**Please note, this post is aligned to Trust specific pay scales and terms and conditions of service and is not linked to the 2016 doctors in training terms and conditions of service and pay scales**
**Main duties of the job**:
Please ensure you familiarise yourself with the job description for a full range of duties for the post.
You will work through competencies to develop a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirement of the Emergency Medicine CCT curriculum. Rotations through Acute Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthesia and Paediatric Emergency Medicine will be given to acquire specialist knowledge and skills in these areas. In the ED, you will work under the clinical direction of EM Consultants who are present in the department 24/7.
**Working for our organisation**:
Our forward thinking, research active Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Europe with 195,000 new attendances annually. The Children’s ED sees 44,000 children and young people and is currently undergoing a major transformation to expand the department. The multiprofessional Emergency Department team is key to achieving our vision of delivering ‘excellent care without exception’. A new leadership and governance structure, incorporating distributive leadership and ‘shared governance’ principles, aims to engage all staff to achieve this aspiration.
The nine bayed Resuscitation Area includes two adult and one paediatric major trauma bays, and the Majors Area has 30 monitored bays. In the Urgent Treatment Unit (UTU), ambulatory illness and injury patients are assessed and treated by primary care and ED clinicians. The expansion and rebuild of our new paediatric emergency department will include a new purpose built paediatric resuscitation area. The ED also runs a Clinical Decisions Unit (LJCDU) alongside the main department which allows emergency physicians to optimise care for specific patient groups.
**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:
These EM posts offer the opportunity to join a dynamic, forward thinking team in the Emergency Department (ED) at the Queens Medical Centre Campus of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The post would be ideal for those wishing to pursue a non-consultant career grade post in Emergency Medicine. The post would also be suitable for an experienced SHO equivalent / Clinical Fellow / Registrar who wishes to pursue a career in Emergency Medicine and would like to consolidate their experience and confidence or would like to work in a Major Trauma Centre.
Formal and informal educational delivery is a major strength of NUH ED and our DREEAM facilities support a wide range of training activities including the European Trauma Course (ETC). We offer daily timetabled supervision sessions from our ED consultants, enabling our staff to fulfil their portfolio competencies, as well as regular emergency floor “Education in the Fast Lane” multiprofessional, multidisciplinary education sessions. All CESR appointees are expected to support the education of the multiprofessional team in ED. The DREEAM website is available at dreeam.ac.uk
The Department has 24 hour Consultant cover, and the recent workforce investment will support an increase across the entirety of our clinical establishment. The appointees will join our team of 40 Tier 4 (middle grade) clinicians, (Higher Specialist Trainees, CESRs and senior Advanced Clinical Practitioners). The CESR programme at NUH has run for 4 years and is extremely successful. We have already seen an NUH ED CESR graduate progress from trainee to Consultant, and have more trainees about to make that transition imminently.
