The provision of advice, signposting, identification and brief intervention in relation to early intervention for Children & Young People’s emotional health and wellbeing.
To develop relationships with professionals within the school environment, provide education to professionals, children & young people and families, to promote the emotional wellbeing resilience and understanding of mental health through the use of advice, training, and a delivery of programmes in group and individual format.
To support the early identification of mental health difficulties through the provision of screenings, assessments and brief interventions for the children and young people who do not meet the threshold for CAMHS intervention.

Consultation and training to school staff and other professionals.

Screening/Assessment of mental health difficulties for children and young people.

Attend multi-disciplinary school forums.

Line management of allocated staff.

Responsible for a cluster of schools covering the Swansea Bay locality.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Provide consultation to school professionals relating to the emotional and mental health of children and young people. In addition, they will be expected to provide individual screenings, assessments and 1:1 interventions, as required. This will require the ability to assess a young person and analyse complex information in order to support the formulation of a treatment plan/advice given to school. They will also be expected to support the delivery of whole class training and groups alongside practitioners.

Provide training to Education and Local Authority staff on mental health difficulties affecting children and young people.

Liaise and work with parents where required.

Participate in multi agency forums with colleagues during which they will be expected to analyse information provided in order to offer specialist advice on a young person’s mental health and potential treatment pathways.

Following consultation/assessment the post holder will be expected to develop specialist packages of care to be delivered by School In-Reach Practitioners and/or education staff. The post holder should regularly review these packages.

Offer joint advice/screening or assessments to young people with colleagues from CAMHS, School Based Counselling and
Education Psychology etc. The ability to offer a joint appointment will support the development of a robust formulation and allow for specialist advice to be offered to schools and families.

Communicate effectively and clearly formulation, risk and treatment plans to health, education and local authority colleagues alongside young people and their families.

Develop relationships with all schools within their remit, encourage access where there is limited uptake of services, plan sessions throughout the academic year based on the school need and develop a timetable of events linked to children’s emotional health and wellbeing.

Develop and review plans of care and deliver these themselves or supervise the delivery by others.

Responsible for supervising the case load of practitioners, but be able to escalate concerns to the appropriate staff member where possible.

Work within Health Board and developmental policies and procedures as well as professional guidelines such as the Code of Conduct.

Clearly record every intervention and advice given as per UHB requirements.

Attend Whole School Approach national meetings in order to share and comment upon any national and organisational policies and ensure any changes to guidance required can be acted upon within the service.

Respond to unpredictable situations or deal with families, professionals and children and young people who are experiencing distress.

Work in a range of working environments including local authority and community buildings as well as health board settings. This will require the transport of equipment to different sites.
