Brain Injury Support Worker required to support a 72-year-old gentleman living in the Shrewsbury area.

We are looking for a brain injury support worker to join an existing team on a self-employed basis and work with our client. This position would ideally suit an individual with a background in psychology or occupational therapy or similar due to the complex nature of the client’s needs.

Our client is a 72-year-old male who has sustained a traumatic brain injury. He has support 7 days a week, provided on a 1:1 basis within his home environment. He lives alone and the focus of the team is to provide cognitive and psychological support, structure and enable our client to engage in essential and meaningful activities of daily living whilst managing risks.

Brain injury support workers are expected to implement the client’s rehabilitation programme as part of the package of support which involves occupational therapy, physiotherapy, neuropsychology and dietetics. There is an expectation that the support plan and therapy guidance is strictly followed, ensuring a consistent approach to support and to ensure effective management of behaviours.

Our client seeks someone who is well organised, flexible and demonstrates excellent communication skills. The support worker will be a core member of a support team and will be expected to attend monthly team meetings and liaise closely with the team leader and case manager. Client specific training and regular supervision is provided.

Working hours: By negotiation dependent on availability and needs of client. We will be in a position to agree regular shifts and then additional shifts are available to cover leave. Support is provided 7 days per week and includes days, evenings and nights. Nights are currently waking but may become a sleeping night.

Rates of pay:
Weekday: £17.50 per hour

Waking nights: £17.50 per hour

Weekend: £19.50 per hour

Weekend waking nights: £19.50 per hour

Bank Holidays: £23.00 per hour

An NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is desirable. Otherwise, the applicant must be willing to undertake Care Certificate training.
