**Job summary**:
DEFRA is the UK government department responsible for safeguarding our natural environment, supporting our world-leading food and farming industry, and sustaining a thriving rural economy. The role is in the Defra Group Finance team supporting the Rural Payments Agency.

Changes to funding and approaches to scheme finance technology together with the broader impact of supporting an increasing volume of new agricultural support measures means that there is an increased requirement for strategic finance system support alongside the existing operational system accounting function.

We are seeking an accountant with an interest in finance systems and business partnering experience to ensure development of the IT infrastructure and finance system delivers optimum results for the business while enhancing financial management and reporting capabilities.

This will be achieved in partnership with the Defra IT function, external systems support together with business transformation and Operational functions within RPA.

**Job description**:
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- **Supporting new approaches to hosting of scheme finance technology**

Engagement with IT department on a wide-ranging suite of projects impacting the MS Dynamics 365 finance system, ensuring both operational finance procedures and financial reporting capabilities and maintained and developed

**Stakeholder Liaison**

Developing enhanced links with RPA ensuring scheme finance developments deliver appropriate enhancements in functionality for the agency while improving resilience and reporting capabilities.

Developing a finance business partnering role with the IT function and the RPA regarding finance system developments

**Financial Reporting**

Assessing and developing financial reporting capability which links with wider Group grants reporting requirements and future ERP development projects including an assessment of the benefits of control and configurability of systems

**Line Management**

Manage and build on the expertise of the systems accountant to develop opportunities to enhance accounting and reporting capability.
