- Job description- Your ability to build and sustain effective relationships is vital to this role. Your focus will be our Local Outcome Plan, contributing to EA2025 and the 25 Year Environment Plan.
You will play an important part in planning and delivering engagement within communities, enabling them to understand the current and future risks we face.
You will be developing, maintaining, working with, and influencing partnerships and internal and external stakeholders to achieve our mutual goals.
You will lead on the coordination of Flood and Coastal Risk Management and Navigation engagement across the area, ensuring the team’s engagement activities align with our department’s capital programme and strategies. You will build and maintain good relationships with all area engagement staff to make this a success.
You will steer and help others in our team to plan, carry out and evaluate effective engagement.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
- The team- The Customers and Engagement team is a busy, friendly team who work with others to deliver excellent customer service to the Kent, South London, and East Sussex area. The team plays an important role in managing relationships that are essential to our reputation, business delivery. Our engagement officers and specialists help teams to engage with customers, communities, and partners. They protect our reputation and ensure we give clear, consistent messages around sensitive and emotive issues.
- Experience/skills required- We are seeking a team player who will have the opportunity to demonstrate the following:

- Exceptional leadership and technical ability in Communications and Engagement.
- A high degree of confidence in dealing with difficult public relations situations and able to resolve them with calmness and professionalism.
- Be able to guide others without communications and engagement expertise, on the right course of action, to get the best results.
- Promote the importance of communications and engagement in strategy, programme, project development and delivery.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external partners and colleagues to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality projects.
- Proven, effective communication skills (written, graphical and verbal) and a proven ability to work with others across external and internal teams.
- Coach and help others in your team to plan, carry out and evaluate effective flood resilience engagement.
