Internal Communications Business Partner

Birmingham, United Kingdom Tarmac Full time

**Job Introduction**:
Tarmac is the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business. Our innovative products and solutions not only deliver the infrastructure needed to grow the UK economy today but also help to create a more sustainable built environment for the country’s long-term future. We offer exciting, challenging careers that provide excellent development opportunities and an attractive remuneration and benefits package for the right calibre of person.

Are you passionate about great internal communication and employee engagement that drives business results? The internal communications team at Tarmac is looking for a creative and strategic Internal Communications Business Partner to join our team and to work alongside our business units and functions to drive engagement across a range of teams and locations.

This role is part-time on a job-share basis, working in partnership with an established internal communications business partner. You’ll both work three days a week with Wednesdays together.

This amazing opportunity is based in Solihull and offers a varied, complex and rewarding career that will see you working alongside senior leaders to inform, inspire and involve colleagues in the success of their team, business and Tarmac as a whole. We're a purpose-led organisation in which everyone is inspired to play their part and fulfill their potential. The stories you tell will drive a sense of pride, while you'll be instrumental in playing back employee voice and using colleague feedback to shape what we do.

**Role Responsibility**:
A business partner role in our award-winning internal communications team is a great blend of strategic engagement expertise and hands-on creative delivery. You’ll be an experienced internal communications specialist, comfortable working alongside and influencing senior leaders and demonstrating the value that comms can bring. As well as your strategic thinking and planning, you'll have a strong execution focus and be capable of creating materials and delivering great change and engagement campaigns across all media.

You'll be as comfortable presenting to leadership teams as you are putting on your boots to find great stories from around your patch. We're a quick-thinking, agile team, passionate about what we do and highly supportive of each other. It goes without saying that your writing skills, presentation skills, communications planning expertise and evaluation abilities are second to none.

Reporting directly to our Head of Communications and Corporate Affairs, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to make your mark and help us inform, inspire and involve our 7,000-strong workforce. The role supports Tarmac in achieving its corporate strategic goals and transformational journey by providing best-in-class internal communications and employee engagement.

The role will support defined business units/functions, working with leadership teams to build an engagement programme that creates alignment with business goals; supported by individual engagement plans that drive awareness, understanding and action. Many of our colleagues are operational, so experience of reaching a frontline, non-connected workforce would be beneficial.

It requires excellent stakeholder management skills and a proactive individual who can work with programme leads to define engagement requirements, sequence activity, and create communications materials for use across a range of channels and formats.

The team works a hybrid pattern so once you’re onboarded, we’ll be together in the Solihull office one day a week with the rest of your time split between home and out with your business at a site or office, as required to deliver the role effectively.

There's also the opportunity to join our out-of-hours press rota to use or build further crisis communication skills.

**Why Tarmac**:
We offer an extensive range of career development opportunities and industry-leading rewards, incentives and benefits:

- Contributory pension scheme
- Access to the Tarmac Reward website with discounts on retailers, holidays, etc.
- Access to our Employee Assistance helpline for free and confidential advice
- Access to join our Employee Communities inc. BAME; LGBTQ+; Working Parents
- Training and development opportunities
