Band 2 Imaging Department Assistant-radiology

**Job summary**:
The Imaging Department Support Worker will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of a patient centred imaging service.
The post holder will assist the Directorate's radiographic and other qualified staff in maintaining the patient environment to the highest standard and ensuring patient movement to and from the examination rooms is carried out safely, efficiently and in a dignified manner. Where appropriate the post holder will assist clinical members of the team during radiological examinations and procedures.
To ensure that the service is maintained to the best possible standard, it may be necessary, from time to time, for the post holder to be moved to alternative duties within his/her/their competence. The holder of this post will work shifts as required with an expectation to provide cover for other Imaging Support Workers absences to meet service needs.
In line with service needs may be required to provide clerical support including reception duties, attending patients on arrival within the department and telephone enquiries.
The following principles of good practice will be a fundamental requirement of the post holder in the delivery of high-quality patient care
**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
- To assist Radiologists and Advanced/Specialist Radiographers in undertaking fluoroscopy examinations.
- To observe patients in waiting areas, reporting changes or concerns with the patient's condition to a radiographer or registered nurse immediately.
- To prepare jugs of water /fluids that form part of the patient preparation.
- Prepare and lay sterile trolleys for biopsies and drainages.
- To prepare examination rooms, assist in clinical areas and with moving patients.
- To be able to identify respiratory or cardiac arrest and take action immediately.
- To attend to patients' needs whilst in waiting areas and after examinations, for example, making and giving drinks, contacting relatives/carers.
- To actively participate in the departmental quality assurance programme. Participate in audit and data collection as required.
- To report to a radiographer immediately where a serious clinical incident may arise. The jobholder must be aware of the implications of the Health and Safety at Work Act and to ensure its guidelines are followed.
- Ensuring that accurate records are kept on the computer system, entering patients, and confirming patients in the ultrasound and other areas of the department under the guidance of the Sonographer or Radiologist.
- . To assist at reception desks, entering patients' details onto the computer system, accurately checking and recording patient details, with adherence to the Trust Information Governance Policy.
