**Job summary**:
The Imaging Support Worker will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team involved in the provision of a patient centred imaging service.

The post holder will assist the Directorate's radiographic and other qualified staff in maintaining the patient environment to the highest standard and ensuring patient movement to and from the examination rooms is carried out safely, efficiently and in a dignified manner. Where appropriate the post holder will assist clinical members of the team during radiological examinations and procedures.

In line with service needs may be required to provide full administrative and clerical support including the booking of non-complex diagnostic imaging appointments, reception duties, processing patients on arrival within the department and telephone enquiries.

The following principles of good practice will be a fundamental requirement of the post holder in the delivery of high-quality patient care:

- maintain safety and security of individuals
- works under close supervision within well established procedures

The post holder will be required to gain the required knowledge and skills to meet the Occupational Standards relevant to the post.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
Understanding of procedures being performed or undertaken within the Imaging Directorate.

1.Clinical
- Adhere to all Trust and Departmental policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols.
- To assist in the transfer of patients between the imaging department and wards or departments.
- Assist patients in changing before and after their examination ensuring adequate patient care is provided including personal hygiene and assisting with use of the toilet.
- To provide patients with a brief explanation of the procedure prior to an examination.
- To assist in the positioning and chaperoning of patients before, during or after imaging and have an understanding of procedures.
- Ensure patient changing and waiting areas are tidy and maintained at all times.
- To liaise with other health care professionals in the interests of patient care.
- To provide physical and emotional support to patients both before and after imaging, within the limitations of the role.
- Maintenance of sterile field when opening sterile packs in line with aseptic technique.
- Insert/Remove intravenous cannulas and flush with saline, according to scope of practice.
- Following protocols prepare and administer oral contrast and fluids that form a part of a patient's examination.
- Provide refreshments to patients when required.

*To assist in an emergency situation, commencing immediate resuscitation, if necessary, in accordance with BLS guidelines and Trust policy. *Frequent contact with bodily fluids.
