Sterile Services Supervisor

This is an exciting time to be joining Wirral University Teaching Hospital as we develop our operating theatres into the next stage. There are 25 theatres across two sites. The Clatterbridge site has had four new theatres built in 22/23 and has just been GIRFT accredited as an Elective Hub offering mutual aid to the region. The Sterile Services department play a vital role in the success of the 25 theatres by ensuring instruments are processed in a timely manner.
The Sterile Services Department is on the Arrowe Park site with a stand alone theatre endoscopy decontamination unit on the Clatterbridge site.
You will be part of the team responsible for providing an exemplary instrument sterilisation service for our Theatre equipment. This will include loading often heavy sets of instrumentation into the washing machine through to reassembly and packaging in time for the next procedure. As Supervisor you will also manage the daily staff allocation, take responsibility for loan equipment and allocate tasks as required. You will report to the Deputy Theatre Manager.
To organise and prioritise workload to ensure that service needs are met.
Compile work rota’s, ensuring all areas are adequately staffed, amending were necessary throughout each shift.
Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner and that relevant information is communicated to appropriate staff.
To ensure the day to day provision of a comprehensive decontamination service to the Trust, in accordance with national, local decontamination and ISO standards.
Provide training and education to new starters and junior staff.

The Wirral is easily accessible with excellent transport links including motorway, train, bus or ferry and within easy reach to the major cities of Liverpool, Chester and Manchester as well as neighbouring North Wales.
- Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner and that relevant information is communicated to appropriate staff.
- Identify problems, which effect process‘s performance. Appraise the situation and propose an alternate wherever possible.
- Update staff records to ensure that accurate documentation and staffing level are maintained
- To be able to p erforms a range of daily, weekly and quarterly routine testing tasks such as bioburdens, Sterrad testing, protein residue etc.
- Participating in the same activities and workload within the department as the Assistant technical Officers.
- Check all decontamination equipment within Sterile Services is used in a safe and competent manner using the PPE provided, maintaining an awareness of the hazardous environment in which they work.
- Ensure the documentation for use with Traceability and ISO quality assurance system is accurate.
- Communicate with other team members, theatre staff and hospital staff in a polite pleasant manner, ensuring that any enquires /requests are acted upon.
- Ensure all areas and equipment is maintained in line with department policies. Reporting any problems to the relevant department and recording action taken.
- Take part in the audit process, using audit tools and attend audit meetings.
- Ensure working areas are maintained in a clean and tidy order.
- Training new starting staff on correct decontamination processes, instruments & IT systems
- Update & train current staff with new decontamination processes, instruments & IT systems
- Oversee stock levels and assist in reordering process
- Assist management in the overall administration of staff conduct and adherence to policies and procedures
- Report any deficits, faults or breakages using the departmental SOP or Trust Policy
- Communicate with decontamination engineer to give comprehensive over view of faults with the decontamination equipment
- To be able to use, demonstrate and have basic troubleshooting knowledge of the Track and Trace software
