**Overview**:
First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our client - an exciting and innovative company that offers high quality residential care for children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties who are unable to live at home - torecruit a Residential Care Worker to join their team in the Newcastle upon Tyne area.
Our client’s approach is personalised and ‘needs led’ ensuring that the young person is safe and cared for to the highest standards. Using a therapeutic model of care, they promise to prevent wherever possible placement breakdowns and reduce feelings of traumaoffering opportunities for growth and independence. Their residential homes are safe and secure and maintained to a high standard. They are deliberate in the location and size of their homes to create a ‘family’ approach that avoids stigma and conflict inthe community. They provide solo and shared placements, never having any more than four young people Looked After in any of their homes.
**Duties and Responsibilities [extract]**:

- To act as the key worker to a young person, providing support and ensure the implementation of their individual care plan. This will include the attendance at childcare reviews and contribute to the assessment and care planning process, the developmentof daily programmes and individual/group plans.
- To take an active interest in and promote each young person’s educational development and achievements and remain informed about educational matter, and contribute to the development of educational opportunities inherent in the home.
- To maintain, where appropriate, all necessary records in a timely manner and to a high standard.
- To liaise and collaborate positively with parents and partner agencies to ensure that the best interests of the young people are always respected and promoted.
- To promote, uphold and advocate for children’s rights as described in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- A commitment and flexibility to work those rotas which meet the needs of the home as a whole and a willingness to sleep in, work weekends/part-weekends, and anti-social hours when required.

**Skills and Experience [extract]**:

- If you are already qualified with NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care working with children and young people in a residential setting (or equivalent) with previous experience in similar environment, we would love to hear from you.
- Alternatively, if you are looking for a rewarding career and have the right mindset for such a role, but are not qualified, do not be put off as FULL TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED for the right people.
- Regulated Activity DBS Disclosure Certificate, or able to obtain one.
- Possession of good literacy and numerical skills.
- An ability to compromise and work and react calmly.
- An ability to listen and respond effectively to different situations.
- An ability to develop positive relationships within the work setting and contribute effectively to achieve consistency and quality.
- Clean driving licence and ability to drive with young passengers.
