As Media Relations Officer, you will work closely with the Media Relations team to create and deliver robust reactive responses to regional and national press to support DVLA’s strategic goals.

You will also work on proactive media handling and will deal with journalists on a daily basis, including issuing timely rebuttals and good news stories.

This role sits within our External Communications department as part of our Media Relations team, who adopt a campaign-based approach, underpinned by the GCS principles, to everything we do. We believe the most effective communications are simple, evidence-based communications that reach the right people at the right time with the right message.

You will have excellent verbal and written communications skills and able to work under pressure. You’ll have an interest in the news and some experience in working with communication channels such as social media. You will be a motivated and positive individual with a keen willingness to learn and a great team player.

You will enjoy working at pace, meeting tight external deadlines and prioritising your work in line with business objectives. You will be resilient and able to recover quickly and learn from setbacks. You will be part of a forward-thinking team and able to build relationships quickly to get the job done in a fast paced environment.

You will be confident and comfortable adapting your style for a wide range of internal and external audiences.

You will need to use your initiative to come up with ideas and adapt to rapidly developing situations that require prompt and accurate responses.

You will be a natural networker, building strong relationships and you will be somebody who sees the bigger picture and will be able to take pride in and understand how your own professional contribution feeds into wider organisational priorities.
