Prostate cancer is harming too many men, in exchange for too few cures, which is why we are motivated more than ever to deliver a future where prostate cancer is no longer limiting men’s lives. We invest in the most innovative research that will expand our understanding of prostate cancer and one day improve the lives of men with the disease. Last year we awarded over £9.5m to researchers across the UK to develop better treatments and more effective approaches to diagnose the disease. We intend to surpass that this year (and in future years) as we embark on new ground-breaking initiatives to revolutionise how prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated.
**What the job involves**
You’ll join our Research Team who support the delivery of our research grant funding activities. As a Senior Research Officer, you’ll be ensuring we deliver robust and transparent funding schemes enabling us to fund the very best projects with the greatest chance of making a difference for men. You'll develop a good understanding of the science contained in the research proposals we receive and use that knowledge to find experts in the research community to assess proposals.
You’ll provide administrative support to applicants who wish to submit their research projects to us for funding and contribute towards the preparation and delivery of our research committee meetings, where funding recommendations are made. This includes corresponding with, and assisting, our scientific committee; preparing meeting documentation; writing full and clear meeting minutes; and preparing outcome letters detailing funding recommendations.
In addition to our grant funding activities, you’ll manage a small collection of funded projects and support our Grant Managers with their portfolio of research grants, handling and reviewing annual progress reports and invoice claims. You’ll also support and take part in engagement visits with our funded researchers and their support teams (virtually and in person) to discuss their research and the short and long-term plans to achieve patient benefit.

You’ll be motivated to consistently perform to the highest standards, with a keen attention to detail and eagerness to continually identify opportunities where we may develop and improve how we operate. You’ll frequently be in communication with a variety of researchers, as well as colleagues at all levels across the charity resulting in a need to be a confident and clear communicator.
Importantly, you’ll be excited and motivated about achieving major improvements for men with, or at risk of, prostate cancer.
