**JOB DESCRIPTION and PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Hours of Work**: Term time heavy hours with an average of 25 hours per week for a total of 32 weeks per year.

**Background and Main Accountabilities**:
Here at SCA we’ve been providing volunteering opportunities that fit into the student lifestyle since 1972.

Our aim as a charity is to encourage the involvement of students in voluntary community work, provide services to disadvantaged groups within the community and give students a valuable learning experience.

We are run by a student committee (the Steering Group) and a board of eleven trustees made up of eight senior members, and three junior members from the Steering Group (the Executive Committee). It would be important for anyone interested in this role to appreciate and understand that SCA is a student-led organisation.

SCA has two paid members of staff: a Manager and a Volunteers and Projects Officer.

As Volunteers and project officer, you will work closely with volunteers, placing them into volunteering opportunities and matching them up some of 1 2 1 projects and clients. You will arrange home visits with Clients and volunteers to check suitability of matches. This is a very rewarding part of the job but also very important.

The Volunteers and projects officer will also work closely with volunteer leads of all projects helping to make sure they are running smoothly. Working closely with our Steering group and Manager you will also help to organise and source new projects that fit within SCA aims.

**Main Duties**

Recruitment and support of student volunteers

Help develop and manage SCA community projects

Organise and attend new client home visits

Carry out administrative procedures within SCA, developing them as necessary.

**Specific Duties**

Recruit volunteers from all Universities in Cambridge to participate in SCA projects that support the local community and other local charities

Take the appropriate measures to ensure the suitability of the volunteers

Place and monitor volunteers in suitable placements

Maintain good communication between volunteers and projects

Input data for existing clients and volunteers

Produce and update volunteer information and recruitment material including on the SCA website and social media pages

Organise and attend recruitment events in colleges and departments

Produce a bi weekly bulletin for volunteers

Carry out admin required for the Executive Committee and Student Steering Group as required.

Assist with the induction of Steering group committee members

Organise volunteer training events

Become a Disclosure and Barring counter signatory and help to process DBS forms during busy times or in the absence of the Manager (training will be provided, no previous experience required)

Support and implement the aims of SCA's policies

Keep website up to date

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**Essential**:

- First class verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, especially with 18-25 year olds and empathy for vulnerable adults and children
- Computer literate with particular experience of Word and Excel
- Good organisational skills
- Able to work on own initiative
- Open minded and non-judgmental attitude with awareness of equality and diversity issues.
- Able to work under pressure and with a wide range of people
- Able to work with minimum supervision and take ownership for achievement of asks in a timely manner
- Committed to the values of SCA
- Willing to undertake appropriate training including DBS, Safeguarding and Health and Safety
- Appreciation and understanding that SCA is a student led organisation

**Desirable**:

- Previous office experience
- Experience in marketing and recruitment
- Experience in managing and maintaining Wordpress website and/or Salfesforce
- Experience of voluntary work or voluntary sector
- Knowledge of Health & Safety and/or Safeguarding principles
- Experience in using Mailchimp or other bulletin platforms

**Terms and Conditions**:

- The post caries a salary of up to £25,012 per year (pro rata)
- This post includes 25 days holiday (pro rata). Please note that bank holidays that fall within Cambridge University term time will be working days. Time off in lieu will be given for days worked on bank holidays
- This is a part-time post, 25 hours per week for a total of 32 weeks per year
- The time demands of the post are seasonal; it will be necessary for the appointee to work flexible hours at times in accordance with these demands
- Time off in lieu or equivalent hourly pay will be given for extra hours worked (with prior agreement of line manager)
- The post will be fixed term for 1 year
- Mileage and other expenses will be paid for travel when on duty

Hours

Hours include all University of Cambridge full term dates, one week either side of term in Michaelmas and Lent, one week before term in Easter, and an additional week in September.
