**THE ROLE**

The Junior Laboratory Support Operative role is our entry level role into the business. The role will equip you with a foundation of the scientific operations of the organisation, particularly in Material Management, Facilities Management and Sample Management all of which are aimed at ensuring the smooth running of the laboratory practices and delivering high quality data to our customers.

The role involves providing Operational support to the company to ensure effective organisation of all aspects of a research laboratory, in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and collaborating with colleagues to provide all the necessary materials, equipment and samples for a customer study on time and to a high-quality standard. You will receive the required training and development for this role and through your learning and knowledge, quickly understand the value and importance of this role.

**WHAT WE EXPECT YOU TO DO**

**Materials/Procurement**
- Prepare material specifications according to the Scientists instructions.
- Follow set instructions in relation to receiving and booking in and releasing of routine and custom materials ensuring accuracy and completion throughout.
- Maintain the stock room to ensure that there is always a good level of materials available.
- Move supply of materials from the stock room to the lab to ensure a level of materials is always available for lab users.
- Perform weekly stock checks and rotations for ordering purposes.
- Undertake checks of expired stock and advise Facilities Supervisor when completed.
- Obtain quotes from suppliers, link with necessary PO for consideration and review by Senior Management.
- Place necessary weekly orders with suppliers which is reviewed by senior management prior to ordering.

**Equipment/Facilities**
- Perform where necessary, the installation qualifications of equipment alongside supporting documentation.
- Identify and safely maintain all non-data generating laboratory equipment, with support from equipment owners.
- Support the validation of equipment and key systems.
- Daily and weekly maintenance and cleaning of the laboratory and all equipment that is not data generating.
- Ensure that all departments have the necessary IT equipment to fulfil their duties which is advised by Facilities Supervisor.
- Follow set instructions in relation to receiving and booking in and releasing of new equipment.
- Record completion of maintenance activities in LIMS system as per Quality Management System.
- Respond to alarm notifications on the Equipment Monitoring System and where necessary escalate to the Facilities

Supervisor.

**Samples**
- Receive customer samples, perform review for accuracy and completeness, followed by booking into LIMS, supported by relevant Study Managers.

**Laboratory Support**
- On occasions, prepare routine non-sterile reagents for maintenance.

**Compliance**
- Ensure adherence to Good Documentation Practices resulting in completed documents, which require mínimal revision upon review.
- Contribute to the update of current and new SOPs.

**Health and Safety**
- Ensure compliance of COSHH documentation in support of correct handling and storage.
- Ensure compliance of COSHH documentation in support of disposal of materials and biological waste.
- Adhere to all health and safety policies in the workplace.
- Contribute to the preparation of COSHH and identify risk assessments, supported by the Health & Safety Committee.

**Learning & Development**
- Participate in projects and required training to enhance learning and ongoing development.

**WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR FROM YOU**

- 5 x A - C National 4’s or 5’s or equivalent (incl. English and a Science) is desirable.
