**Job description**:

It is an exciting time in the world of MoD approvals and this is a great time to have an impact on the direction of travel This new post has been created as there is a renewed focus on approvals within DIO, the role is key to a small, high profile team.

The Lead Assurer role is key to providing guidance and support to project teams and presenting recommendations to Senior Civil Servants with regards to the endorsement and approval of business cases. There is an opportunity to influence across the whole of the defence approvals regime.

To support an internal programme of continuous improvement, the post holder will lead on a number of tasks that seek to augment and improve upon the internal core processes. This will involve identification and investigation of specific scrutiny areas where improvement can be made to knowledge, skills and process. There will also be opportunities to present to wider DIO and external audiences.

Although based in a finance team, this role is not finance based and no finance qualifications or experience are required.

**Responsibilities**:

- The oversight and management of Defence Infrastructure related business cases, covering a varied range of projects and portfolios, providing Lead Assurance on Investment Decisions.
- Reviewing cases and supporting evidence in tandem with Subject Matter Experts, working with Requirements Managers and project teams to address the issues raised to tight timescales. Pulling together the available information into an assurance report taking account of any outstanding issues and concerns. Forming an opinion and making a recommendation to the Investment Approvals Board.
- Engaging with Delivery Teams and advising them on the approvals process in general as well as on the content and structure of cases they are looking to submit and on the evidence required to support those cases. This engagement is through attendance at meetings as well as through more informal ongoing dialogue with projects teams and Requirements Managers, including providing expert advice on draft documents.
- Making recommendations for improving efficiency within the process and once experienced taking part in pan defence improvement activity.
- Leading on training and communication in the approvals arena to ensure all parties are aware of their accountabilities

- Knowledge of JSP655 desirable but not essential as training will be given
