**Job Purpose**
Reporting to the Head of Research Development within the College of Social Sciences’ Research Support Office, but working in partnership with the College Research Operations team, the role will be key to the success of the College Research & Knowledge Exchange Strategy, including delivery against the following specific success measures: increasing the quality and quantity of future impact case studies delivered in partnership with community partners; evidencing that more academic staff are engaged in knowledge exchange with communities; and increasing the College's research income.
This will include: developing the capacity of social science researchers to carry out high quality engagement with communities; maximising opportunities for collaborative research, development and innovation between social scientists and community partners; proactively engaging with community partners in sectors that are strategically aligned with College research strengths

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Through regular engagement with the College's five Schools, coordinate and deliver a targeted programme of opportunities for social scientists to build their skills, capabilities, and confidence in community engagement with research.
2. With the aim of creating opportunity for communities and citizens to influence research agendas and design, and to build their capacity to shape decisions, support the creation, through a variety of activities (e.g. the UOfG Engage Forum), of new partnerships of mutual benefit between communities and University of Glasgow researchers.
3. In coordination with the Innovation and Engagement Directorate, support researchers by holding responsibility for the nurture of community relationships, developing strong relationships with key community representatives, and the College Research Operations team, and exercising judgement in encouraging the timely development of new activity. Ensuring that collaborations continue to grow in scale and range, by trouble-shooting and re-engaging at key points in active projects/relationships to plan with the academic and external collaborators the next funding or product/process development targets.
4. Maintaining an active knowledge of the broad local and national research, knowledge exchange and community action funding landscape, to support developing researcher/community partnerships to identify, when required, funding mechanisms to support their shared interests.
5. Work in partnership with the College Research Development and Operations teams to provide 1-2-1 support to researchers preparing funding bids in collaboration with community partners.
6. Promoting the College's successes in community engagement, ensuring that successful projects and partnerships are visible in the most effective spaces, and representing the University, as required, in appropriate public fora.
7. To be a key contributor in the broader College Research Support Office team to identify opportunities to improve the organisational profile and capability to deliver on College and University KPIs in Research and Knowledge Exchange, and Learning and Teaching.

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**:

A1 Degree or equivalent with evidence of continued professional development in an area relevant to the role.
A2 Understanding of the range of social scientific methodologies and approaches and how to develop and build research partnerships, including partnerships based on co-production of research.
A3 Understanding of academic research environment including the complex mix of pressures, constraints and motivations of academic staff, schools, research institutes, Colleges and the institution.
A4 Understanding of the research and knowledge exchange funding landscape relevant to community engagement.

**Desirable**:

B1 Familiarity with and/or experience of adhering to the National Standards for Community Engagement in the development and delivery of all community engagement activities.
