South Kensington, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

Imperial College Union is a vibrant, member-led charity organisation comprising the 18,000+ students of Imperial College London - one of the world's top universities. If you are excited by the opportunity to help us do things differently, empower others and build a students' union that can better support our students, then we could have a role for you.

We are currently looking for an outstanding caseworker to make an everyday difference in our students lives. You will make a direct impact on the student experience, advocating and supporting them through their journey at Imperial College, through policies, disputes, specialist impartial advice and more. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, being able to build rapport with staff across all Imperial faculties and services, as well as showing empathy and dealing with complex situations with students. You will be able to work without direct supervision, prioritising work to meet ambitious priorities.

In return, we have a great team culture which will support your varied and complex caseload. We offer access to relevant training to further develop your skills, and you will have the opportunity to be the main liaison contact for a faculty as well as supporting outreach work across Imperial campuses and student halls.

Our aim is to provide to all our employees a supportive and relaxed working environment with an emphasis on personal development and work-life balance. Based on that we also offer 25 days holiday (plus 6/7 extra days per year for College Christmas and Easter closures), generous pension scheme, flexible working hours, health benefits, season ticket loan and many more benefits.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
The Advice Caseworker is a meaningful role in supporting the Students’ Union to deliver high-quality, free and impartial advice to students at Imperial College London. The role holder will support students through the College’s processes and procedures, support them with complex disputes, offer specialist advice, and signpost them to relevant college/external services where appropriate.

Key accountabilities are:

- Casework
- College relationships
- Compliance

**Essential requirements**:

- Advice qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience of supporting casework from initial interaction to close
- Experience of supporting students or young people
- Experience of dealing with sensitive information and people in vulnerable or sensitive situations
- Experience of managing complex and varied workload
- Experience of working in a client-facing role
- Experience of building and maintaining relationships with partners
- Experience of keeping and maintaining accurate and confidential records
- Understanding of policies and procedures in relation to advice delivery
- Understanding of issues affecting students in a higher education context
- Understanding of key legislation in relation to student rights (including, but not limited to, the Education Act, the Equality Act, and the Consumer Rights Act)
- Understand of how to deliver effective advocacy
- Understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion issues in practice
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Excellent administration and organisation abilities and the competence to balance competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively on your own as well as in a team
- Ability to solve challenges sensitively and with discretion
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing environment with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
- Commitment to the Union’s values of integrity, democracy, inclusivity, accountability, and ambition

**Further information**:
Please note this role is with the Students’ Union. We’re a registered charity in our right, with our own governance, systems, processes and objectives. However, we work extremely closely with Imperial College London, so you’ll also be joining a wider community of staff working within higher education. If you’ve never worked in a students’ union, or are unsure why it’s different, we urge you to get in contact. It’s a brilliant place to work.

Interviews will be expected to take place week commencing 17th July 2023.
