It helps patients learn new ways of managing their conditions and symptoms with the aim of helping to prevent any future relapse. For patients with challenging behaviours, Nelson House helps them to learn skills to change their response to anxiety and distress.

Purpose of the role:
Nelson House is a Rehabilitation and Recovery Service for men experiencing long-term mental health problems. We are currently recruiting a Senior Recovery Support Worker to join our well-established team.

Nelson House Hospital are currently looking for an experienced, senior healthcare worker to work within our male service.

As a Senior Healthcare Worker, you’ll be part of a large multi-disciplinary team to support our patients to receive optimal care. Our treatment aims at site are to promote independence and encourage patient involvement in their care through effective communication and engagement.

Some of the responsibilities expected of a Senior Healthcare Worker include

Facilitating low-level groups/ activities or to assist with facilitating higher level groups such as health education and smoking cessation groups.

To complete Induction Pathway workshops and actively engage in supporting junior staff through our ‘Buddy System’

To be a positive role model and display a positive approach to new initiatives

Amongst other delegated responsibilities.

The shifts are 11.30 hours (excluding 1 hour unpaid lunch break) on a rota basis to include nights, weekends and bank holidays. Shift times would be:
Day Shift = 07:00 > 19:30

Night Shift = 19:00 > 07:30

Staff will work a set shift pattern, such as

Week 1 = Monday, Tuesday, Saturday & Sunday

Week 2 = Wednesday, Thursday & Friday. As part of the role, you will be responsible for providing a high quality recovery based service with the focus on enabling our patient group to gain the skills and independence to move back to the community.

You will work under the supervision of our Nursing team, providing individualised care to our patient group. You will also be involved in completing risk assessments and care plans and recording these on our Carenotes system. You will have the opportunity to work creatively and flexibly to develop and implement innovative practice and service developments. The Role of Senior Recovery Support Worker can be rewarding and challenging with the ultimate goal of making a real and lasting difference in people’s lives.

Role requirements:
NVQ 3 in Healthcare

Skills & Knowledge:

- Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health issues
- IT literate
- Basic knowledge of the principle of clinical governance
- Understanding of the CPA process
- Knowledge of current legislation including the MHA, and legislation specific to this
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of issues relating to clinical specific settings

**Experience**:

- Experience of working with service users in a mental health setting,

acute, PICU or rehabilitation.

Desirable - substance misuse.

- Able to stay calm and work effectively under pressure/stress
- Evidence of coping strategies to deal with stress/challenging experiences
