Manchester, United Kingdom Coop Full time

**Food Technologist Apprentice**
£23,400 plus great benefits (Work Level 6C)
Manchester city centre, with occasional travel to Sheffield Hallam University and other parts of the UK (find out more about our hybrid working policy at colleagues.coop.co.uk/hybrid-working-policy).

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Food Technologist Apprentice to join our Technical Services team in Manchester to help make sure that our Co-op food products are safe and in line with legal regulations. You’ll also be supported through a 3-year learning programme in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University, working towards a BSc (Hons) Professional Practice in Food Technology degree.

Over the 3 years, you’ll cover a variety of modules; from food innovation management to food nutrition and chemistry. This will all be underpinned by work-based learning projects and on-the-job training. It’s an incredible opportunity for you to get a real taste for our retail business, as well as gaining a degree qualification and kick-starting your career. If you’re a foodie and have the drive and curiosity we’re after, this could be the perfect opportunity to you

**What you’ll do**
- Get stuck into your role from day one - supported by your colleagues and mentors to manage a variety of projects
- Spend one day each working week studying towards your qualification with Sheffield Hallam University
- Gain an in-depth understanding of our Technical Services team
- Attend several in-person group study sessions at Sheffield Hallam University for three days at a time, completing assessments at the end of each year of the programme
- Collaborate with your colleagues and our suppliers to support the delivery of Co-op brand products
- Carry-out independent and group visits to our suppliers across the UK as necessary (these may be at relatively short notice)

**This role would suit people who have**
- GCSE Maths and English Language at level 2 or above (grade 4, or previously C)
- Achieved or are predicted to achieve 96 UCAS points (280 UCAS points pre-2017) including at least one A-Level in a science or food technology
- Good problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail
- A keen interest in science and a passion for food, along with a basic understanding of the food industry

**Why Co-op?**

Here you’ll do work that matters. We can offer you a competitive salary and great benefits package which includes 30% off Co-op branded products in our food stores (as well as other discounts on Co-op products and services). You’ll also get:

- 28 days holiday (rising to 32 with service) plus bank holidays
- A pension with up to 10% employer contributions
- Coaching and training to support your career development
- Wagestream - a money management app that gives you access to a percentage of your pay as you earn it
- YuLife - an app that rewards you for exercising with discounts and vouchers for your favourite brands
- Access to extensive health, financial and wellbeing support

**Building an inclusive work environment**

At Co-op, we’re proud to do things a different way. As one of the world’s largest co-operatives, owned by millions of members, community is at the heart of what we do. Since our Co-op was founded in 1844, we’ve had a clear social purpose, and everything we do as a business helps to build a fairer world for our members, customers, colleagues, and communities.

We'll ask whether you’d like to be considered under the Disability Confident scheme when you apply.

If we invite you to take part in the recruitment process for any of our jobs, we’ll ask you if you need any reasonable adjustments to enable you to participate.

You can find out more about our recruitment process at jobs.coop.co.uk/apply-process.
