To support the Service in providing high standards of care and quality of life. In particular to provide high quality support and promote independence in all aspects of daily life to people in their own homes, in training, in employment and in leisure activities. Please note this is a general description for a Support Worker role, but duties are personalised to the Service Users needs. To develop and sustain warm and trusting relationships with the people we support, promoting their self-esteem, happiness and emotional health.

To respect peoples right to privacy and to ensure that their dignity and individuality is maintained and respected at all times. Encourage and support people in expressing their needs, views and concerns and enable them to make choices and decisions and to participate as fully as possible in planning and decision making processes. To support people in developing a socially valued lifestyle which includes a varied range of culturally and age appropriate experiences, building on the persons strengths, interests and aspirations. Facilitating social activities, e.g.

visiting family/friends, walks, cinema, meals out, visits to local amenities/ attractions etc. in line with the individual interests of the person and with their support plans. To support people in general housekeeping, such as cooking, domestic tasks, preparing meals, laundry and shopping. Help as required with all aspects of personal care, e.g.

showering, dressing, and where necessary managing continence issues with both dignity and respect. To create opportunities for the people you support to develop and maintain friendships and personal relationships, encouraging maximum participation and inclusion within their communities. To achieve a range of appropriate communication techniques in accordance with the individual needs of the person. To provide support to people in their contact with healthcare specialists, social services, housing departments and other external agencies, e.g.

attending relevant appointments,helping to explain information, and completing relevant paperwork in partnership with individuals. To ensure that people receive all necessary advice, care and regular health checks to maintain their physical health and well-being. To promote nutrition, relaxation, exercise and a healthy lifestyle. Where relevant and when agreed with appropriate Team Leader to support people in planning and taking holidays (including travel abroad), in accordance with the relevant policy and procedures of the organisation, and in line with their expressed desires and personal support plans.

Where relevant to act as an escort for the people on holiday working in line with agreed guidelines around assisting people during their vocation. Where relevant, to encourage and support people in undertaking training and employment opportunities. Assist or supervise people as necessary with their medication including administering medication, ordering, storage and recording in line with departmental policy and training. At all times to work within the ethos and values of the Brothers of Charity Services, to develop and operate best practice and to constantly promote and support peoples independent living and participation in their community.
