Are you passionate about working with young people and children? The Dracaena Centre Youth Service are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth and Children's Worker to join our busy team. This is a multipurpose role, focusing predominantly 12-19 years and up to 25 years with additional needs - with some primary age group work included. As a Youth Worker you will play a crucial role in supporting and mentoring young people, while creating opportunities for fun and engaging activities through 1:1, group work and outreach sessions. Using a Trauma Informed and Youth Work approach you will foster opportunities to develop social skills, interests, confidence, self belief and aspirations, while supporting young people to develop existing skills and learn new ones. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of young people and children.

Your job role will be wide ranging, with new experiences everyday. You will work with young people and children through a voluntary participation approach to co-create interesting and engaging activities and wellbeing programmes. Your enthusiasm and positive outlook will be instrumental in facilitating a warm, respectful and secure atmosphere for the young people and children in your care. In addition you will be a champion for the Dracaena Centre Charity and the services it provides for the local community.

**Duties**:

- Face-to-face delivery, specialising in working with young people both in groups and individually
- Activities which are Dracaena Centre based, secondary school based and detached and outreach in approach
- Plan, co-create and deliver a range of informal, creative activities with young people and children
- Engage and build positive relationships with young people, including those who are disengaged / additional needs
- Collaborate with the Youth and Family Service team, the wider Dracaena Centre team and other professionals, such as teachers and counsellors, to create a comprehensive support system for young people and children
- Monitor and deliver verbal/written evaluation and reports, while identifying areas for improvement and implementing appropriate interventions
- Assist in creating a safe and inclusive environment for young people, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being
- A willingness to work unsociable hours
- Ensure that all activity is consistent with and promotes equality, equity and safeguarding
- To attend conferences, review meetings, supervision and training sessions as requested
- Work flexibly as will be required by the needs of the service and carry out any other reasonable duties as required

**Experience**:

- Experience working with young people in a Trauma Informed and Youth Work capacity
- Previous experience of working in a busy, fast paced environment
- An understanding of issues affecting young people and children’s lives
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to establish rapport with young people and children, while building trusting relationships
- Experience working with young people and children from diverse backgrounds
- Patience, empathy and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations
- Experience of Safeguarding Policies and Procedures
- Sporting qualifications or interest in playing sport would be beneficial
- Full drivers license

- Ability to communicate effectively

Preferred qualifications:

- JNC Youth Work qualification, equivalent or working towards
- Trauma Informed Practitioner
- NOCN Level 2 Certificate in Youth Work
- A levels, with relevant work experience
- GCSE English and Maths
- A history of relevant work experience with the ability and willingness to gain qualifications while within this role.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: £21,183.00-£22,065.00 per year

Expected hours: No less than 32 per week
