About the role
This is an exciting time to join our Revenues and Benefits team We are a new local authority, created in April 2021.

We are on our journey of shaping what the Revenues and Benefits team looks like at West Northants Council, so there is plenty of opportunity to develop processes, and shape our offering so we can provide the best possible service to our residents and businesses.

This role is accountable to the Housing Benefit Subsidy and Overpayment Recovery Manager and is responsible for the line management of three Subsidy officers and three Housing Benefit Overpayments Recovery Officers.

What will you be doing?
You will lead, manage, and develop the Housing Benefits Subsidy and Overpayments Recovery teams ensuring the quality and accuracy of the work undertaken by the team.

You will act as a senior specialist for functions within Benefits and Subsidy and will work with the Benefits team to improve subsidy and overpayment recovery maximising income to the Council.

This will include undertaking targeted checking to protect the Council from subsidy loss and developing and delivery subsidy training as required.

About you
We are looking for a Benefits professional with excellent knowledge of legislation and best practice with regards to Housing Benefit and recovery of overpayments.

You will have significant experience of leadership and managing and motivating a team in a Benefits environment as well as effective performance management and proven experience of managing high performing teams.

You will have excellent communication skills with the ability to support and negotiate with stakeholders including subsidy auditors
