**HDRC Community Engagement Coordinator (682)**

**PO4: £45,711 pa inc LW rising in annual increments to **£48,747**

**Fixed Term until September 2027 and Full Time**
- This post is also available as a secondment, part-time, job-share and other flexible working opportunities, all of which are negotiated on an individual basis. _

**About the role**

We are announcing some exciting new opportunities to work as part of the Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) based at Lambeth Council; also known as Lambeth Health Determinants Research & Evaluation Network (HEART). Lambeth is one of 10 councils across the UK pioneering this exciting new approach.

We’re creating a ‘research culture’ across the Council and with our partners, encouraging and enabling research to be undertaken and used to shape how we influence the wider determinants of health and what we do to reduce health inequalities.

Lambeth HEART defines ‘research’ in the broadest sense of the word - how we find things out, share the information with other people and use it to help people live healthier lives. The post holders will be integral members of this new research network as we become a “nationally recognised centre of excellence”.

These roles represent a unique opportunity to join a new, pioneering team, to help grow and shape a new way of doing things and ultimately to have a big impact on outcomes for local people.

We are recruiting a Community Engagement Coordinator to coordinate the development and delivery of Lambeth HEART’s ambitious community involvement and engagement workstream. We want residents to shape a research community of practice, research priorities and participate in research itself. We want to harness existing community knowledge and ensure that traditionally under-represented communities are engaged through inclusive models of involvement. The post holder will work with residents, community groups and other stakeholders to co-develop community involvement and engagement framework and mechanisms that promote trust and partnerships between the community and Lambeth Council and deliver on the aims of this workstream.

The post holder will be supported by a new HDRC Community Engagement Manager and involves working closely with colleagues across Lambeth Council and its partners, to ensure the HDRC is strategically aligned with policy and activities across the organisation and borough. They will utilise excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships and develop an awareness of Lambeth’s HDRC programme. The post holder will work closely with colleagues in partner organisations such as King’s College London and Black Thrive Lambeth. They will support the delivery of research infrastructure that embeds race equity and intersectionality with other protected characteristics. The post holder will ensure HDRC activities are equitable, diverse and inclusive, and ultimately reduce health inequalities across the borough, particularly for those who experience the poorest outcomes.

About NIHR:
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is the nation’s largest funder of health and care research and has a mission to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) is a new element of NIHR research infrastructure funded by its Public Health Programme that will be based in local government. The purpose is to enable local authorities to become more research-active, undertake new research and use existing evidence to inform our decision making, and undertake evaluation activities. There will be a central focus on health inequalities and actions to tackle issues faced by local disadvantaged groups and areas.

**Key duties include**:

- Coordinate collaborative development and delivery of community engagement and involvement mechanisms, including a Citizens Research Council and Research Reference Group, which embed principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Develop and maintain close working relationships with colleagues across the council, borough and beyond, to develop partnerships, networks, share knowledge and work collaboratively on projects.
- Ensure HDRC community engagement work is strategically aligned with broader council work.
- Advise Council colleagues on engagement and involvement activities for wider determinants of health research.
- Act as a first point of contact for resident and community organisations.
- Establish and develop diverse forms of communication and dissemination.
- Support the development of governance, policy, guidelines and procedures for community engagement in research, including compensation and remuneration for participants.
